Not much stuff could wake her up. She was a light sleeper, although if there was an emergency, she would wake up instantly. Chase gave up on waking her again and again.

But she wasn't sleeping.

It was three days after Rocky talked to her. She was still crying in her pup house, looking at the pictures she had taken in these months. Many of them were with Marshall. Who knew you could be so adorable? She told herself while sighing. She was scared of what will happen when he returned. She was reminded that Rocky has a new lock on the door, but she knew that he would hurt Marshall again, no matter how.

She hated him. She hated how he wanted to be with her. Everest never loved anybody, but grew feelings toward the fire pup. She just figured out what love really is.

"Everest?" She heard a very familiar sound from the other side of the doors. She thought they were just playing with her and it was a sound, playing from a device. "Are you there?" She heard again. She wiped her tears and opened the door. She gasped at what she saw.

"Hi," Marshall said, waving his paw. She immediately jumped on him and hugged him. She finally could touch him again. He returned the hug as well. They stayed there for a moment. Then, he let go.

"Hi Eve, I brought you some food and water." He said while nudging the bowls with his nose. Everest's smile faded. She didn't drink or eat for the three days she was inside, because she didn't want to. But she accepted the meal and started eating it.

Marshall was happy to see her again. It hurt him when he found out she wasn't out from her pup house for 3 days. And it hurt him to see tears on her face. He knew she was crying, for a long time.

"So, how are you feeling?" Marshall asked her as she finished the meal.

"Well, strange." She said, hiding the real reason she is sad.

"Oh, well, do you want to go for a walk?" Marshall asked, playfully handing out his paw. She took it and nodded. They walked to the park.

"Eve?" She hummed in response as they were laying on the grass. "Before we talk, could we, uh, take off our collars?" He asked. Everest was curious about why, but she nodded and took it down. Marshall took them and placed them far from them.

"Eve, are you okay?" Marshall asked. She faced away from him. But then she figured out why they took off the collars.

"No, I'm not." She said, tears in her eyes. "Rocky told me to stop hanging out with you, otherwise he..." She stopped as she was crying. "he would k-kill y-you." She said and burst out in tears. Marshall moved to her and hugged her, as she did the same. They were like this for a while, until Everest stopped crying on his shoulder.

"Eve, I promise you, that jerk can't do anything. He will never hurt you, and he will never hurt anybody again. Nothing can get between our friendship." He said.

Friendship. He hated that word. He hated that she was just his friend. He wanted her to be something more. A lot more.

"And now, if he does something, I wouldn't hesitate to punch him," Marshall said. Everest was relieved, that Marshall is back and full of energy. But part of her was still scared. She leaned onto him, not caring if he wanted it or not, and just laid there. Marshall slightly moved her so her head was under his chin. They both stared at the sun going down.

"You know how much I missed you?" Marshall said, earning a blush from Everest.

"I missed you too Marsh." She said, smiling. Marshall was surprised that she used that nickname but didn't care.

It was Everest who he cares about now.

"Do you think we should head back?" Everest said. Marshall nodded and they got up. Marshall grabbed the collars and put them on his back with the words 'you'll have it later'. They came close to the doors to see that everyone was eating dinner. They entered and came to their specific bowls. A few of them were looking at the two, seeing they didn't have their collars on, which could mean one thing.

As they finished the dinner, they went over to their pup houses to sleep. Everest was finally happy that she would get proper sleep in days. She laid down and immediately fell asleep.

The pups were running in circles around the lookout. It was their unusual morning activity that Chase created.

"2 minutes for 10 laps, not bad pups." He said while the others were catching air. It was exhausting for them to do 10 long laps around the lookout seeing they weren't too fit. Suddenly, Everest was grabbed by someone.

"Everest, I told you something," Rocky said quietly while having a knife in his paw. "You didn't listen, so he will get it." Everest tried to grab it, but he kicked her away. She saw in horror what he was about to do. He came to Marshall and without hesitation, he pushed the knife through him. Everyone was shocked at what happened but stood away as Rocky killed their friend. He then ran away, god knows where.

Everest ran to Marshall.

"No, no. Marshall. Marshall!" She shouted while checking for a pulse. His heart was still beating, but slower and slower.

"H-Hey E-Eve..." He stuttered. The others were trying to help with the giant hole that Rocky made in him, but had no luck.

"Marshall, please..." "No Everest. I-It was m-my f-fault. P-Please, b-be happy, a-and l-live l-like y-you w-want..." He said.

"I l-love y-you w-with m-my w-whole h-heart..." He said in his last breath. He passed away. Everest cried on his body.

She jumped up and hit the roof of her pup house.

"Ouch!" She yelped in pain. She walked outside to see everyone sleeping. F**king nightmare. She mumbled to herself. She went to Marshall's pup house, only to see him peacefully sleeping. She wanted to sleep with someone, the nightmare was too real for her. And Ryder was out with Katie. She carefully nudged him, hoping that he wouldn't be angry that she woke him up. He opened his eyes.

"H-Hey Eve *yawn*. Something happened?" He said while getting up.

"H-Hey. I had a nightmare, and I wanted to s-sleep w-with y-you. Can I?" She said, slightly blushing. Marshall's eyes widened. But then he walked to her and hugged her.

"Of course, you don't even need to ask." He reassured her as he let her go. She got in his pup house and laid down, Marshall joining her. She leaned onto him as he made himself comfy. But he grabbed her and hugged her, making her blush at how he touched her.

His cozy fur was touching her. His warmth was calming her. She felt him breathing on her neck. She liked how they were laying and closed her eyes.

She finally felt the feeling after days. Safe. She felt safe with him. And finally happy.

Even though they were at their most vulnerable now.
