prequel to Matt's story - @elena.gilb

Confession

We have been driving for almost an hour now and it just is quite awkward, so i decide to lighten the atmosphere.

"Hey Elena can i ask you something?"

"Do I really have a choice if I answer or not?" she replied moodily.

"why did the chicken cross the road? I ask, holding in my obnoxious laugh "to avoid being Stefan's next meal!"

"Hahaha." Elena says sarcastically.

I thought that by going on this trip me and Elena could get closer, especially with Damon out of the picture. But the reality is she is a lot more hard to please than expected!

The sun was starting to set and the glow of the sun made Elena look like a Goddess.

"Wow Elena you look so good right now." I say, shooting my shot

"So I don't always look good? You always look like a rat that got stepped on so don't go commenting on my looks." Elena said with a threatening tone in her voice.

"No- I didn't mean it like that! I um- just meant that uhhh- that you look pretty!" I stuttered trying to find my words.

"Don't I always?" she said vainly, putting on a pair of sunglasses with one hand. "Make yourself useful and pass me a blood bag"

I picked one out of the mini fridge and was about to hand it to Elena when all of a sudden...

"ACHOO" I bellow. I realised that I just popped the blood bag and it went all over the vehicle.

"FOR GODS SAKE MATT CAN'T YOU EVER NOT DO SOMETHING STUPID? What are we going to do if a cop pulls us over? There is blood all over the car now!" Elena shouted furiously.

"I don't kn- kn-know..." I said, as I feel extremely dizzy.

I could feel my heart pounding, it hurt so bad it was as it if was being ripped out of my chest. That was the last thing I remember, but I woke up laying across the back seats.

"What happened?" I questioned as I regained consciousness.

"You had a heart attack and passed out, your okay now though. You do realise how stressful you are right? We have been together for 2 hours and you already nearly died! If you did die who will get the blame? ME! I will so try not to die and sit there like a good boy. Now do me and favour and don't say a thing." Elena explained, angrily.

The rest of the ride I sat there in silence. It was seriously awkward and I knew Elena said not to do anything but this could be last chance to talk to Elena about how I feel. We were about 10 minutes away from NewYork and I decided it was time to confess what I had been hiding.

"I am so sorry Elena but I need to tell you this. Your the most beautiful, kindhearted girl ever and I love you. I LOVE YOU ELENA GILBERT PLEASE GIVE ME A CHANCE! I am way better that Damon, if you want a vampire boyfriend then I will just turn! I will turn into a vampire for you just give me some blood and I will and we can be together for ever and ever and ever and ev-" I said as I was cut off by Elena.

She slammed the breaks of the car and turned around to me. "Listen Donovan. If you ever say that again I will rip your heart out instantly. Thanks a lot I feel physically sick after hearing all that and just know that I cannot think of anything more horrific to do than spend eternity with you. That is why we are here to get DAMON who is MY SOULMATE."  She said passionately, as she turned back to face the road and started the car up again.

After driving for a few more minutes, we arrived in NewYork.

"We are here, let's find Damon and get out of here so I can enjoy my 3 days of peace." Elena said.
