Chapter 4

Georgie and Mary hadn't spoken in days and she just kept pushing for him to come over, to have dinner with Jason, a heart to heart Georgie wanted anything but that and wished she never snooped so he finally snapped

'MOM JUST STOP. I DONT WANT YOU MEETING HIM AGAIN YOU JUST MAKE EVERYTHING WORSE EVERY TIME YOU GET INVOLVED IN MY LIFE!' He yelled getting off the couch

'GEORGIE COOPER DO NOT RAISE YOUR VOICE TO YOUR MOTHER AND I DO NOT MAKE EVERYTHING WORSE YOU JUST REFUSE MY HELP' she said staring down at him

'YOU DO REMEMBER WHEN I WAS GOING TO THE SCHOOL DANCE AND YOU MADE ME GO WITH THAT GIRL FROM THE CHURCH? IT WAS SO EMBARRASSING'

'YOU NEEDED A DATE, SHE WAS A LOVELY LITTLE GIRL '

'DUNNO IF YOU'VE NOTICED BUT I DONT LIKE GIRLS THAT MUCH AND IT WASN'T MANDATORY TO HAVE A DATE YOU JUST DIDN'T WANT ME TO LOOK LIKE AN IDIOT!'

'EXACTLY YOU NEVER EVEN TRIED TO GET A DATE IT WAS SAD.'
'I WAS 10' 'AND I WAS 17 WHEN I HAD YOU I GOT MARRIED BECAUSE OF YOU'

The room fell quiet... mary didn't mean to say that but she didn't stop she ranted about how she didn't even want kids when she had him and only got married because she didn't want to end up like her mom... but she ended up being exactly like her but worse.

Georgie, missy and memaw stood there in awe

'....what!?' She said sternly
George and paster Jeff were behind her. He brought paster Jeff so he could help Mary with this.

Georgie's eyes began to water he left the house with nothing but $5, his portable cassette player and headphones

He found the hill him and Jason had their date on and sat there. Just thinking. Thinking about how hard he tried to hide the fact he liked guys all his life.

How he bought beach mags and left them in plain sight only ones with girls on them though and how he was always trying to shower last so he didn't have to shower with the other boys, how he tried to pray it away how he cried and kept beating himself up for crying because it wasn't 'manly'

The only time he didn't do this was when he was around Jason. Because he was openly queer in TEXAS he looked up to him he didn't care what people thought about him ;Jason was awesome Georgie knew he had a crush...but he didn't mind mainly because he knew if he ever told him (which before the movie date he had no intentions of doing) he wouldn't get laughed at he would be accepted

Georgie was up there for a good two hours until he heard a car driving up the hill he hoped it was Jason... but nope. It was his dad
'Get in Georgie' he asked Georgie just stayed silent. George stopped the car and sat beside Georgie

'Ya know your mother she's not very good with change.'
'It's not a change though i just...stopped pretending'
'I know... she's... I don't know but i know she didn't mean what she said.'
'Really? It sounded like she had been bottling it all up for years'

'Your mother has never been to well in the head. When we were teenagers she was wild she drank,she smoked... both cigarettes and weed'

Georgie just stayed quiet

'She had a very bad motto'
'Mom had a motto?' He chuckled
'Yeah... she used to say may as well do everything until you die'

Georgie sat their for a bit wondering what the hell happened to her to change her. He realised it was him. He was the reason she stopped.

They talked for a bit longer and got in the truck
