"Hey..." Cuddy said awkwardly.
I burst out laughing,
House did finger guns at me, "Awesome, huh?"
"Making out with your boss?" I chuckled, "Pretty James Bond of you, to be fair."
"Nice one," he grinned, high-fiving me.
Cameron was laughing too, "Happy for you guys!"
Cuddy smiled and started chuckling, "Alright, yeah, it's pretty funny."
Cameron gave Cuddy the file she was dropping in and we left them alone.
"That was fucking hilarious," I wiped a laughter tear from my eye.
Cameron let out a bellow of a laugh, "I mean, House of all people!"
"Jeez, I mean, I knew there was SO MUCH tension but I never thought Cuddy'd act on it!" I laughed.
I walked with Cameron back to the clinic where she had to do some work, then went on my way back to my office.
Halfway down the hall, I felt a tap on my shoulder. It was James.
"What's up?" I asked.
"I just wondered if we could talk."
"Sure we can."
We stepped into Wilson's office and I sat down on his couch.
He sat at his desk and looked at me for a moment, "Claire... I'd love it if we were, y'know, friends."
"But we are-"
"You know what I mean, Claire, we look like we want to die every time we see each other."
I sighed. He was right.
"James, I've got an appointment in like ten minutes-"
"You don't want to admit I'm right," he smirked.
I rolled my eyes, "Maybe."
"You are so stubborn," he smiled, "One of my favourite things about you."
I giggled, "And you're not?"
"Alright, so am I," he said, laughing.
I sighed, "I will admit that I miss hanging out with you, James."
"I miss seeing your real smile," James grinned, "Rather than the uncomfortable facial expression I'm met with whenever you pass me in the hallway."
I laughed, "Thanks, I suppose."
"See, there's that smile," he chuckled, "Source of the world's light."
"James Wilson, are you flirting with me," I pretended to be offended, "Anyway, everyone knows the worlds light source is the Sun, dummy."
"The Sun's a close second to you," he continued to grin cutely.
"Stop it, kiddo," I rolled my eyes and smiled.
A few moments later, House walked into the office.
"Both of you- oh I don't care," he grinned at Wilson, "You believe me?"
"No," James smiled.
"Seriously?"
Cuddy walked in a moment later, "You told everyone?"
"Repeatedly, yes," House smiled at her, "This one still doesn't believe me."
"If I confirm this, can we go?" she asked.
House nodded.
"It's true," Cuddy said to Wilson and sighed.
He still didn't seem convinced.
Cuddy rolled her eyes and gave House a peck on the mouth.
"I've been more passionate with my Aunt," Wilson laughed.
"Up top!" House joked, raising his hand for a high five.
I grinned, trying not to laugh at the whole ordeal.
Cuddy rolled her eyes again, raised her hand and placed it gracefully on the front of House's trousers.
I snorted and clamped my hand over my mouth to stop the oncoming laughter.
"Right," James said, quietly.
Cuddy left the room.
"I think you may have straightened out my limp a little!" House called after her, leaving as well.
As soon as the door was closed, I let out a loud laugh.
James started laughing too.
"It just seemed so far fetched," he said.
He stood up and walked over to the couch, sitting down next to me.
Out of habit, he leaned down towards my lips, then stopped himself.
"Can't make out on your couch anymore, dearie," I chuckled.
He smiled, "Yeah."
I smiled back, "Look, you wanna go out for a drink or something after work. Friendly like. We can try just hanging out together."
"Yeah," he grinned, "That'd be fun. What about a double date. Y'know with Chase and Amber?"
I felt my stomach knot up, "Uh-huh, sure!"
"Hey, thanks for this," James hugged me.
He smelt wonderful. Familiar.
I smiled at him and left the room.
Then, I sprinted to Chase's office, where he was with a patient.
"I need to have a word with you," I panted.
"What's up?"
"We have a double date with James and Amber. Okay thanks bye!"
I started turning away.
"Woah! Hold on!" Chase laughed, "Are you sure you wanna do that?"
"Totally," I sighed, "It started as my idea, I can't back out now."
Chase rolled his eyes, "Right, okay, see you later."
And so, after work, we went for drinks with Amber and James.
They were a few minutes late.
Amber was wrapped around James's arm and giggling ferociously.
"Sorry we're late, we were... well," she giggled.
"Ahahaha," I laughed unenthusiastically.
Chase kissed my forehead and smiled overly happily.
I gulped down some of my beer.
"Woah, slow down," Chase whispered.
"Trust me, man, I need it."
One round. Two rounds. Five rounds.
Everything started going fuzzy at that point. There was a lot of laughing. I might've thrown up at some stage.
I woke up to the absolutely blinding light of the sun coming through a window. I was on my couch. Or at least I thought it was my couch.
I stood up and put on a t-shirt that was draped over the couch and sat up, rubbing my eyes.
There were some photos on the coffee table. Hold on. I have no pictures on my coffee table.
I grabbed one of them and inspected it.
"No," I thought, "No, no, no, no, absolutely FUCKING NOT."
James Wilson was in all the pictures. House was in a few of the ones on the wall. I was in their apartment.
Something moved on the couch behind me.
I whipped my head around and was met with exactly what I was expecting. James. Not a shred of clothing on him.
I pulled on my jeans, my shoes and ran out of the apartment.
My head was absolutely pounding.
"It's fine," I thought, "If I don't tell him, he might not remember. We were way more drunk this time than the first time."
When I got to work, I hid in my office, just like last time, and dropped my head into my hands.
I was prepared to stay there for the entire day, before I suddenly felt more nauseous than I've ever felt in my life.
I ran out of my office, into the bathroom and hurled my guts up. Crap.
