Missing Dinner

"As I said at the beginning of class, this potion needs to be finished by tomorrow." Snape drawled. You and Draco were sitting at your desk, taking notes on your potion. It had been a couple of days since you had gotten his ring, and you hadn't taken it off since. Neither of you had said anything about it, but the first time you came to class with it on, Draco had quickly glanced at it but hadn't looked at it since.

"Maybe we should work on the potion tonight? Before dinner?" I asked him. "I don't think we will finish it in time if we don't."

"I guess. We can meet here." Draco answered.

"Umm... Sure that will work." You and Draco didn't talk much, but when you did, he was usually distant. Unlike with other students, he wasn't ever rude to you. It must be because he needs me as a Potions partner. Most of our assignments require two people, you tell yourself. Either way, you and him got along well, and you thought you guys could even be good friends if he opened up a bit more.

"I guess I'll see you then," you told him, his only response a small nod.

Later that day, on your way to the Potions classroom to meet Draco, you couldn't stop thinking about why he gave you ring. Maybe he just wanted to be nice, you thought. Or maybe he just didn't want that one anymore, you reached the door to the classroom and was surprised to find he was already there, getting the potion out.

"Sorry, am I late?" You ask.

"No, Y/N. I am early."

"Have you been waiting long?"

"Just got here," Draco replies as you reach the cabinet helping him grab the supplies that you needed.

"Oh! I almost forgot I brought a little radio. Is it okay if I play some music?" You ask him. You had brought the radio along hoping to fill that awkward silences between you too.

"Sure, whatever," he replied. You set the radio down at the front of the class and turn on your favorite station. By the time you get back to your desk, Draco had everything set up. For the next couple of minutes, you both worked on the potion, only talking when needed. You were about to ask Draco how much Baneberry he put in the potion when your favorite song turned on. You immediately forgot what you were going to ask and started humming along but still keeping up with writing notes about your assignment. By the end of the song, you had started completely singing along, completely forgetting what you and Draco were there to do. Slightly panting, you look over at Draco. He was staring at you.

"Oh. Sorry, I got a little distracted," you said, blushing. "It's my favorite song."

"No. It was nice to see someone that happy." Draco replied, giving you a tiny smile.

"I think that is the first time I've seen you smile."

"I don't have much to smile about." He said.

"Oh. Why?"

"Nothing. Nevermind. Forget I said anything." Draco said sternly, telling you that as if he never wanted to be asked that again. "We should probably go find something to eat, I think we missed dinner, and we finished our assignment."

"Yeah. Yeah, that's a good idea," You say back, shaken by his sudden change in attitude. You both pack up everything, neither of you saying anything.

"C'mon, I know a place we can get some food." You tell him as you walk towards the door, him following close behind. I wonder why he changed his attitude so fast? You thought to yourself.
