~~AUGUST D'S POV~~
I could feel her dark eyes peirce through my back, as I left them both unattended, with equally shocked expressions etched on their faces. My hands fumble and tangle around the silver chains that drape from my neck... It gives me a sense of comfort; having the cool metal slide agaisnt my dry hands.
There aren't very many things that give me comfort--not anymore, at least. Everything has been taken away from me.
I have nothing left to live for; yet I have this desperate need to keep living. Maybe it's fear? No, I don't fear anything. Maybe it's pride? Maybe...
I am quite aware of my reputation here at Changu. I'm simply known as the "handsome-cold-hearted-merciless-killer." Just the sight of my scares people of all ages. I've become a living nightmare to some... Everyone knows who I am.
The streets quickly become even more desolate as I walk down the alleys, quietly making my way down the dirty pavement.
Most people have so many things to worry about here— you have to be on guard at all times. Someone could steal from you at any moment. You could be stabbed, shot, or beaten up at any moment. Little starving kids could tackle you for food. Luckily, for me, no one messes around. Except Muhyeok... he tests my limits... he's got a little gang going on; a bunch of ruffians who literally listen to everything he says.
I have a couple boys, too. But I tend to do my own thing, most of the time.
Sometimes us boys will sneak out to the old abandoned castle at night, fighting off our anger in the dirty ruins. I only take Jungkook and Hoseok with me on such missions. They're my only friends; the only people I can really trust. The only people that hold some sort of place in my heart....
They are fierce fighters, and don't let anyone push them around.
Muhyeok's boys are scrawny, but they have some decent weapons. He has a couple good archers. But nothing too special. He's the second biggest boy in town, following me. People fear him, too.
Part of me is very intrigued by this new woman... I've seen her twice so far, by mere accident...
Who is she?
Not that I really care. When I stumbled upon Bongda, I found myself temporarily lost in her eyes. Her lush pink lips parted in surprise as I approached. I didn't particularly feel like seeing another woman get killed by Bongda... I'm not really sure why I retaliated like I did...
But it doesn't matter... I don't help people. I don't. I just get revenge. Bongda has stolen from me a couple times... that can be his payment.
As I venture further into town, I carefully keep a tight hold on my dagger, just in case.
I suddenly feel a light tap on my shoulder...
I whip around, glaring coldly at the stranger. However; he's not a stranger at all."Jungkook," I mutter.
"Yoongi," he says, smiling (him and Hoseok are the only ones allowed to call me by my birth name), "How's it going?"
"Fine," I glare, "Until you showed up."Jungkook scoffs, brushing loose strands of hair from his face, "You're so mean, Hyung."
I grin a gummy smile in response, continuing down the narrow street. The "market" comes into view several feet away from us.
"Where's Hoseok?" I ask, glancing around.
Jungkook shrugs, "Not sure. Said he had some "business" to take care off. He's probably going off to settle things with Shin."I smirk... Shin has always been patronizing and bothering Hoseok since they were just young boys. I wonder what he meant by "settle." Out of us three, Hoseok looks at death as a last resort. But when he gets really angry, sometimes his emotions take over.
"When is the messenger coming with the marriage list?" Jungkook asks curiously.
"Jungkook—," I sigh, "Do you want to get married?"He fumbles for words, his lips slightly quivering, "I-I do... but only to one person... only to Jangmi... but—we don't get to choose..." his voice trails off into an awfully painful tone. I do feel pity for my friend... I've known him and Hoseok for the past ten years (even longer), and we've stayed together ever since. He's been feverishly in love with Jangmi for several years... but there's almost a 0% chance they will be paired together...
"I'm sorry Jungkook," I say sympathetically, "But life here isn't even close to fair. Just... please stay alive."
Jungkook looks longingly behind us, as though he's expecting Jangmi to show up. She's the only thing he truly holds in his heart... besides me and Hoseok. I know he would... die for her.
Hoseok has never had a love interest. He's very unhappy about the new decree. I think we all are. It's really horrible—forcing two people to unite under such an important circumstance.
Jungkook remains silent for a long while, he mood shifting.
As I gaze around the market, my eyes fumbling around. I inspect all the various people, mingling around and purchasing items. Someone catches my eye...
It's that woman again.
My third time seeing her.
I squint, leaning forward. Her raven locks trail down her leather jacket, and her chocolate brown eyes glisten like diamonds. I wrinkle my nose in annoyance. Why does she keep appearing? She doesn't notice me.
A smile spreads across her face. A smile! A SMILE!! That's a very rare thing to see in Changu.
I glance beside her, and notice an attractive man with plump lips and whisky hair is holding up an apple, gazing at her with a sweet expression. Another female accompanies them, also smiling.
I roll my eyes.
"What are you looking at?" Jungkook demands.
"Nothing," I grunt, turning away.
"That's Park Jimin," he replies, ignoring my attitude, "Rumours say he owns a gun."My eyes shoot back towards the man, inspecting him head to toe. He seems so... unthreatening; like a little baby chick.
I yank Jungkook to the left, pulling him towards a fruit stand.
"I'm hungry," I growl, scraping through my pockets for money.
A/N!
