~~ JUNGKOOK'S POV ~~
I fight back the stinging tears forming in my eyes, refusing to let them fall. I desperately try to drown out the voice of Jangmi, praying with all of my heart that Jimin will take good care of her.
Everything will be fine, I remind myself, my confidence slightly boosting as I approach the fuming Muhyeok who is combating against Hoseok. Yes, he's strong, but not stronger than us. I have nothing to fear-
-- but why does my heart refuse to agree...?
I dash forward, bolting into Muhyeok, my chest slamming into his side. He topples over with a yelp of surprise, giving Hoseok some time to catch his breath. He doesn't take long to retort, quickly positioning himself upright and glaring at the both of us with pure hatred.
"Why are you doing this?" I suddenly blurt, driven to discover his intentions behind the sudden attack.
"You wouldn't understand," he spits, twisting the blade in his hands, "You never understand anything. You've always been used to having everyone respect you, bow to you, fear you. I was never given that privilege. You didn't have to work your way to the top. I won't waste ANY more blood on the behalf of you and your bastard friend."
Muhyeok's eyes begin to gleam with a strange glow; something eerie and unsettling.
"We don't have to do this anymore," Hoseok says breathlessly, sending the message that Muhyeok is stronger than I anticipated...
"Orders are orders," he snarls viciously before snapping his fingers. A wicked smirk overtakes his expression, causing my stomach to feel sick with worry.
A dozen men or so dressed in black emerge from the trees, slowly inching towards us like stalking predators. Hoseok slides up beside me until our bodies are aligned side by side.
"Kill him," Muhyeok points straight towards Hoseok, "Leave him to me."
Hoseok springs into action before his opponents can, dashing beside the first and slicing his dagger across his stomach before twisting his arm and stabbing him directly in the heart. When the next man charges at him, he slides underneath his legs, cutting the man's ankle and earning a howl of agony. Hoseok begins sprinting down a path, guiding the men elsewhere.
"Jungkook, go! I'll be fine here!" he shouts through scattered breaths.
Before I have time to respond, I feel a cold fist slam into my back, sending a strange sensation up my spinal cord. I grit my teeth in pain, spinning around and facing my opponent.
"You know," Muhyeok says, staring darkly into my eyes, "We are very similar."
"How so?" I scoff, disgusting by such a statement.
"We both act strong and tough on the outside..." he says dramatically, "But we really aren't that strong, are we? We can never be like August D... can we? We always have to try and live up to that."
I briskly step up in front of him, curling my fist and knocking it clean across his face. Crimson blood begins to ooze from his nose, causing his eyes to ignite with even more anger.
"We have nothing in common," I say with such force that my voice resembles snapping icicles, "We both may have committed countless sins-- we both have killed countless people. The difference is; people change. I have repented. I'm not going to be the same murderous man I was before. It's never to late to change. I'm going to be a good example for my child, a father they can look up too."
"I can assure you," Muhyeok says in a low whisper, "You won't be leaving here alive."
"I promised the heavens one small thing; you'll be the last person I kill. And I'll make sure it hurts like hell," and with that, I pull out my dagger, our weapons clashing as we both unleash our full abilities.
