"Hangovers are a bitch!" I groaned to Marquis. He stood silently examining the mess we made in the living room last night.
"You tried to take my head off with that damn vase," Marquis giggled.
I apologized and went to clean up the mess. After I finished cleaning up, I went upstairs to take a shower. Since the kids won't be back until Monday, I figured it would be nice for Marquis and I to finally be able to speak like adults instead of talking in code.
Later that night, I got a few calls from Trent. Marquis wanted me to ignore them since we were in the middle of dinner, but I couldn't; for all I knew, something could be wrong with Malani! I walked away from the dinner table and quickly went into the guest room.
"Hey, Trent, Is everything all right?" I answered anxiously.
"Everything is fine!" He chuckled. "I was just calling to see how you were; you seemed irritated the other day when you dropped Malani off."
"Whew!" I sighed. "You had me scared for a minute!"
"My fault, but are you all right?"
"Yeah, everything is fine!"
"Kassie! You know I can tell when you're lying, right?"
"I'm serious! Everything is fine. How's Malani doing?"
"She's fine! Just hanging out with her grandma!"
"Awwww, that's great! Well, I have to go now. Give her a kiss for me."
"Wait! Why are you in such a hurry to get off the phone? You don't want to talk to me?" He asked, making me chuckle a little.
"I'm in the middle of something, big head, I have to get going."
"Ugh" he groaned. "Alright! I'll Facetime you later so Malani can see you."
I returned to the dinner table after my conversation with Trent was over. Marquis was halfway done with his food by the time I sat down. He appeared irritated, but I'm not going to say anything because I don't feel like arguing right now.
"It took you long enough," he remarked. I narrowed my eyes at him and went to reheat my food. "What did he want?" he asked.
"He was just calling about Malani," I explained as I took a seat across from him at the table.
"Can we talk about what happened last night?"
"We can talk about it later; I just want to finish my food right now!"
"Nah! I'm not going to wait until later to talk about shit; we're going to talk about it right now!" he fussed and pushed his plate to the side.
I sighed and pushed my plate away. "All right, then, start talking."
"You've changed!" He uttered.
"What?" I exclaimed. "How...How have I changed?"
"We don't talk as much as we used to. And you spend more time on the phone with Trent than you do with me."
"That's a lie! The only time Trent and I ever talk on the phone is when it has something to do with the kids! Besides, you're always gone with Deon! And every time I try to talk to you or try to convince you to spend some time with the kids and me, you act irritated or like you've got somethin...
"No I don't!" He interjected.
"Whatever," I said, sighing and rolling my eyes at him.
