The new kid

The next day I went to school and walked directly to Lief's desk.

"Hello, do you have it?" I asked not bothering to be polite. I was too tired to be polite but I don't think he minded because he looked up from his desk and smiled gently.

"Goodmorning Aiko! Yes I have my permission slip," he greeted as he pulled his folder out of his bag.

He handed me the permission slip and I slightly nodded with my -as normal- droopy eyes. I took the permission slip from his hand and walked to the stapler with my permission slip already in hand.

I stapled the papers together, carefully aligning them before pressing the staple down. Sometimes people get stressed if things aren't neat so I try to stop that anxiety by making sure my papers are neat.

I neatly put the stapled papers in the homework bin that was on the teachers desk in the front of the classroom. I walked back to my seat in the front row near the window. Leif was also in the front row but he was three seats from me. Two seats from the door.

More students started to pour in talking loudly with their friends as they stapled and handed in their permission slips.

A few minutes later the teacher walked in and the conversations came to an end as my classmates walked back to their seats.

"Okay students. I know it's the middle of the school year but we actually have a new student. His name is Alexander. Alexander you can come in."

Ugh! Here comes the social anxiety of being in a new school, blah, blah, blah. I know it's not their fault but it's exhausting absorbing their worry.

Alexander walked in. He had blonde hair, blue eyes, blue jeans, and a plain red t-shirt.

To my suprise I didn't absorb anything from him. He wasn't feeling negative.

"Hey. You can just call me Alex," he addressed the class looking calm and at ease.

Intresting.

We did our work and soon enough it was lunch time. When we got to the cafeteria I sat at the rectangle table that Leif was sitting at. I sat across from him. He had dark brown hair and rich forest green eyes.

"Hey," Amelia, a girl with red hair and hazel eyes greeted as she sat down, breaking me from my trance.

"Hi," Lief said back.

"Mm," I responded. They knew I only spoke when I have to and basic greetings wasn't what I considered a necessity.

More people started to fill the table.

Jack; a boy with brown hair and hazel eyes. He was smart but what he was really good at was baseball.

Ella; a girl with straight blonde hair that flowed a little past her shoulders and light blue eyes that looked like ice. She was short and looked really sweet but she could beat you up in a second.

Sofia; a girl with silky brown hair that was slightly wavy, in a ponytail. She had dark brown eyes and she was really sweet. She liked to make bracelets and sold them for four dollars each.

Matthew; a boy with brown hair that went to the middle of his neck and dark brown eyes. He was really smart especially in math. He actually participated in the International Mathematical Olympiad just last year.

That was our small group of seven people. There are many other people that like to be around me because, obviously, I absorb their negative emotions but these are the six that made it through.

My main six. The ones who sit with me at lunch. Matthew is pretty chill unless it's the day before a math competition. Then he gets really stressed.

Sofia's really nice and doesn't really have too many negative emotions but sometimes people try to take advantage of her. She knows what they're trying to do but she gets nervous as coming off as mean.
