 Fall From Grace: Dart's Pain

A How To Train Your Dragon Story

Takes place six months after Hiccup and his family visited the Hidden World.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dart stared at his former siblings, crouched down and ready to jump. His siblings Ruffrunner and Pouncer were in the same crouched potions, waiting for Dart to make the first move. This was it, after years of training and biding his time he finally had his chance to take revenge on his siblings.

After this only his parents would stand in his way, and he knew he could taken them out too. It was all coming together for Dart, soon he would be the new Alpha of the Hidden World and have control of all the dragons in the world. Ruffrunner and Pouncer started circling Dart, the fight just mere seconds from breaking out.

"Dart, do you really want to do this?" Ruffrunner said with his teeth bared.

"You don't have to do this Dart!" Pouncer said with sadness in her voice. "You can still stop all this, it's not too late to turn from this path."

Dart laughed at his siblings with an evil glare, "Oh but it is! You guys should thought of that before you treated me the way you did! This is all because of you, and now you get to pay the price." With that Dart leapt at his siblings. The fight that would decide the fate of the Hidden World began.

It had been six months since Hiccup and his family had visited the Hidden World. In that time the Night-lights had been slowly growing up. Ruffrunner, the oldest of the three, was told by his father, Toothless, that he was next in line to be Alpha of the Hidden World.

While Pouncer was informed by her mother, Luna, that she was the next Defender of the Hidden World. The Defenders were an army of dragons lead by Luna that guarded the Hidden World, they made sure no threats would come trying to harm the dragons inside.

Then there was Dart, the youngest of the three. While both of Darts siblings had a very important role to play in the future, he did not. Dart has always been seen by his family as the reckless troublemaker. After the New Berk fiasco, he was not surprised that his reckless reputation in the family made them keep a closer eye on him. He knew that his this nature was one of the reasons he didn't have a high responsibility role, yet it still hurt that he was not as important as his siblings.

Dart woke up that morning to the sound of his siblings' voices. Getting up from his spot in the den he made his way over to them before making his presence known.

"Hey. Why are you two awake so early?" Dart ask as he joined his siblings. "Especially you Ruffrunner, you're always sleepy"

"Oh, good morning, Dart" Pouncer said as her bother sat down next to her.

"Hey, Dart" Ruffrunner replied as he turn to face his brother.

"We were discussing how our roles will work with each other once we take them over" Pouncer said, answering her brother's question.

"Oh, well, how will your roles overlap with one another?" Dart asked, his curiosity growing.

"Well, since I'm going to be the Alpha, I get to tell Pouncer and the rest of the Defenders what is and is not important to look out for, as well as what things that should paying closer attention too," Ruffrunner explained.

"That make sense to me," Dart replied. "So what do you guys want to do today?"

"Dad was going to take me with him on his Alpha duties today, it's part of my training for becoming Alpha," Ruffrunner said. A hint of excitement creeping into his voice.

"Oh okay. What about you Pouncer? Do you have any plans today?" Dart asked, turning to his sister.

"As a matter a fact I do. Mom was going to be taking me along with her to start my Defender combat training today," Pouncer replied, not even trying to hide her excitement from her brothers.

"Oh alright. Um, have fun, you two" Dart said with a hint of disappointment in his voice.

"Don't worry Dart, we can play tomorrow. How does that sound?" Pouncer replied, hoping to cheer her brother up.

"Yeah, sure, no problem," Dart replied hiding the pain in his voice.

"Nice to see you kids so excited about upcoming responsibilities" An all too familiar voice said. The Night-lights looked up to see Toothless and Luna flying down and landing on the ledge in front of them.

"Hello, Dad," the Night-lights replied in unison.

"So, are you ready to go? We have quite the day ahead of us and just sitting here won't do anything." Toothless said, turning to Ruffrunner.

"Yes, I'm ready! Lets go," Ruffrunner responded.

With that Toothless and Ruffrunner took off into the air leaving Dart, Pouncer and Luna. Luna then turned to Pouncer, "Are you ready as well?" she asked.

"Yup, I'm ready" Pouncer replied.

"Alright, then lets get going" Luna said as the pair took off as well, leaving Dart by himself.

This is how it had been for the past two weeks. Ruffrunner and Pouncer had been training for their future while Dart was left with nothing important to do. All he wanted was role to fulfill, even something as small as watching a hatchling or two while their parents went to grab some fish for a meal. Just something to make him feel like was something more then a troublemaker; that he was actually useful and not a burden. Sadly, it seemed like all he was going to be was just the troublemaker of the family, not serving any real purpose.. With a sigh, Dart took off into flight to try and pass some time, hoping he would find his role in life.
