"I'm sorry, but in what universe is Star Wars better than Star Trek?"
I asked in response to Robert's ridiculous question, us having been going back in forth for a bit while we played 20 Questions.
"Star Wars was absolutely revolutionary and ahead of its time, love. It was the perfect mixture of both action and ambiance with a compelling storyline, and the same just cannot be said about Star Trek," he defended with a soft look of pride on his face, knowing with his entire being that he won me over.
"Lest we forget that Star Trek predates Star Wars by an entire decade and has been respected so highly in the entertainment industry that it spawned eleven spin-off series, three animated shows, and thirteen goddamn movies. If anything, Star Trek was ahead of its time," I spoke in an excited tone, running my fingers through my hair as I turned my body to face him.
"I love Star Wars so much, but the nature of the Star Trek series offers more suspense than action and that's what I love about it."
I let out a breath when I was finished speaking, sitting back in my seat.
I knew that was probably too much for me to have said so quickly and with such excitement in my voice, my face getting hot with embarrassment as he chuckled softly and ran his tattooed fingers through his hair.
Robert looked ahead for some time as the two of us sat in silence, himself looking as if he were going over a bunch of things in his head.
The light grin never left his face while he tapped his fingers against the steering wheel slowly.
I didn't really take much notice to how empty the highway was until Robert got off of it, my thoughts immediately filling up with a wide number of scenarios.
I stayed quiet for the remainder of the time that we drove into the brush, further away from any lights or semblance of a town anywhere on sight.
I caught a quick glance over at him, taking notice to the fact that he had no emotion of his face other than he looked deep in thought.
After what felt like an eternity of driving, the two of us came upon a clearing in the trees on a hilltop where suddenly what seemed like the entirety of the Los Angeles could be seen.
He parked the car and got out, leaving me alone inside and feeling silly for letting such thoughts enter my brain.
I chuckled quietly and shook my head, reaching for the door so I could step outside myself.
Before I could, Robert was on my side of the car and holding a hand out for me to take when he opened the door.
My mouth dropped open slightly, my lips parting to speak but deciding against it. I took his hand in silence and chewed gently on the inside of my lip, trying my best not to smile so hard as he lead me over to the edge of the hill.
He let go of my hand once the two of us were sat side by side, causing me to huff underneath my breath since I didn't want him to.
He sifted through his pocket for a moment before he pulled out a pack of cigarettes and a lighter, placing one between his teeth before lighting it and taking a drag from it.
I brought my knees to my chest and just sat in silence as I admired the city lights, my mind feeling at ease for the first time the entire night.
"I just bet you thought I was bringing you out here to kill you or something, didn't you, little one?" He said with amusement in his voice, leaning back on his hands after taking another drag of his cigarette.
I rolled my eyes playfully at his comment, deciding that I wouldn't feed into his ego by letting him know how right he was.
I simply just shrugged my shoulders and rubbed my legs slowly, my eyes scanning the sky as I picked out the different constellations in my head.
