Bokuto looked over to Y/N who was sleeping on the couch. Taguchi sat next to him, nervously glancing over to his unconscious brother from time to time. Bokuto paced back and forth, waiting for his mother to pick up the phone.

Eventually, she finally picked up. "Hey Kotaro, is everything alright?-"

"Can you come home now?" Bokuto asked.

"Why? Is everything alright?" His mother questioned, a concerned tone lacing her voice.

"Not really, my friend got really hurt and I'm not sure what to do. I offered to let him and his brother stay over at our place for a while, and he's asleep on the couch right now." Bokuto explained quickly.

"Alright, I'm on my way right now. How did he get hurt?" His mother's voice was calm and serious which brought a sense of comfort to Bokuto.

"I'm not really sure what happened, but- h-he can probably explain whenever he wakes up, I don't wanna make assumptions." Bokuto pouted.

"Okay, I'll be there as soon as I can." His mother quickly stated before hanging up.

Bokuto put his phone down and sat next to Y/N, running his fingers through Y/N's soft h/c hair.

"So..." Taguchi spoke up. "Is she coming to help out?"

"Yeah..." Bokuto mumbled.

The two stayed quiet for a few minutes, until Taguchi finally spoke up again. "You like him, don't you?"

"What do you mean?" Bokuto asked looking up at Taguchi.

Taguchi furrowed his eyebrows. "Y/N. You like Y/N, right?"

"Yeah, I guess I do." Bokuto mumbled, a faint blush dusting over his cheeks.

"Good." Taguchi mumbled, "I know that he likes you too, so- so just be nice to him, alright? I know that I'm not a very good brother, if anything he probably hates my guts. I just- I just don't know how to be a good brother, I guess."

"Is there something that happened between you two?" Bokuto asked, his head tilting to the side.

"Well not between us directly, it's more of... something happened to both of us and I guess we just both handled it really differently..."

...

This wasn't the first time this week that Y/N and Taguchi had hid in Y/N's room as their parents argued and screamed at each other in the kitchen. If anything, it had become a common occurrence in the household. Taguchi covered his ears, waiting for the screaming to stop, while Y/N would sit and listen, trying to find out what made the two of them so angry. Maybe if Y/N could solve the problem, then the four of them could go back to being a happy family.

The yelling was louder today. Y/N flinched at the loud sound of shattering glass. The two had often argued, but typically they wouldn't break stuff if things came to blows. Y/N decided to open the door slightly just to hear what the two were yelling about.

"I hate you, and I hate those stupid fucking kids! I never wanted any of this. I never wanted you, and I sure as hell don't want anything to do with them!" Y/N's father screamed. "You're a failure of a mother. Those kids don't know shit, and guess who's fault that is? It's yours you dumb whore!"

"Maybe if you didn't leave so much, you could have been some sort of a fucking father to them you dead beat asshole!" Y/N's mother screamed. "I didn't do anything wrong! I raised them to the best of my ability, it's not my fucking fault that they're failures!"

"Maybe you just weren't enough." Y/N father stated. "You know what? I'm not putting up with this shit anymore. I'm leaving."

"Where the fuck are you going?" Y/N's mother yelled.

"I'm leaving you and this stupid fucking house!" Y/N's father shouted, his arm swiping across the counter and launching various glass bottles and plates off of the counter and onto the floor.

The sound of shattering glass rang through Y/N's ears.

It was quickly followed by the front door slamming shut.

Y/N closed the doors, and joined Taguchi in the corner of the room, covering his ears, and acting like he hadn't heard anything.

...

A week after Y/N's father left, his mother got the news of his father's death in a car crash. His mother couldn't handle it. She broke down, and she lashed out on her children.

Taguchi tried to sneak out of his room and into the kitchen to get him and his brother some food. The two hadn't eaten all day. Taguchi was quickly stopped by his mother kicking him in the back, knocking him to the ground.

His mother screamed at him, but Taguchi heard none of it. All he could hear was the loud noise of his mother's voice, but he couldn't hear the words. That was until he heard the sound of Y/N's voice, followed by the sound of shattering glass.

...

It had been many years since Y/N's father left and passed. Their grandfather had moved in with them roughly one month after his passing. Now, Y/N and Taguchi sat in the waiting room of a hospital. The two were now 13 years old. They were 5 when their father left.

Taguchi hid his face in his hands, tears streaming down his face as he cried.

Y/N sat there, no emotion on his face. He didn't want to feel anything. So he simply pretended that he didn't.

He didn't want to show how much pain he was in, after all, there were people who were in more pain, so why should he deserve to break down and cry when others go through worse and don't get to cry?

No matter how much pain he was in, he swore to himself that he would never show anyone what he felt anymore. Whenever he did, they always left. Y/N would rather be alone because of his own actions than because of someone else. He didn't want to trust anyone else.

He couldn't trust anyone else but his grandfather...
