I'm writing another book atm (a hunger games ff) so I won't update as regularly as I used to :)

The story!

I ran through the barrier and looked around amazed. I was an only child so I had never been to see anyone off before. I peered through the steam, trying to find Marlene. Just then, my mother came through the barrier. "Bye Sophia" she said. Mother never cried, but I knew she loved me through her actions. "Your father is really sorry he couldn't make it today, the ministry is really busy at the moment." I nodded. These days Father was never around, but in the rare moments we had together we had so much fun. "Bye mother" I said, my voice catching. Just then I felt an arm around me. "Hello Mrs Lock, hello Soph" I turned and saw my best friend, Marlene McKinnon. "Hello Marlene dear" Mother smiled. She loved Marlene almost as much as she loved me. "Bye Mother" I shouted, as Marls pulled me away.

We got on the train and started looking for a compartment. We found one with 2 other girls that looked our age. I suddenly was very nervous, as I was a very shy person. Marlene however was not. "Can we sit here?" She said, barging into the carriage. "Sure" one said, she was very pretty, with dark skin and curly black hair. "I'm Dorcas Meadowes" I smiled at her. She seemed very nice.

"I'm Marlene McKinnon" Marlene replied. The second girl, who also had curly black hair, but pulled into a loose ponytail said "I'm Mary Macdonald" everyone looked at me "I'm Sophia Lock" I said. Dorcas looked surprised. "Is your dad the minister for magic?" (A/N I couldn't find who the actual minister was so I made them up) I sighed. That's all people thought about when I told them my surname. "Yeah..." I muttered avoiding her eyes. "Wait... there's a minister for magic?" I looked surprised at Mary who had been listening carefully. "Of course" Marlene replied "I thought everyone knew that!" I loved Marlene but she could be so stupid sometimes. "Sorry" Mary replied looking worried "I'm muggleborn. I know nothing about magic. Is that bad?" I smiled "No. There's loads of muggleborns every year. Besides even the people like me don't know much" she looked a lot happier. I sat down next to her just as the train pulled out of the station.

The four of us had loads of fun on the way to Hogwarts. I bought everyone sweets and Marlene ate them all. Mary asked thousands of questions about the Wizarding World and Dorcas showed us how to do different hairstyles. (A/N to me it is cannon that Dorcas is amazing at doing hair. Don't ask my why. It just is) By the time we got to hogwarts I was certain I had made some good friends.

When we got of the train, I saw a big man calling for first years. I think his name was Hagrid. Me and the other girls sat in a boat and as we went across the black lake, we got a glimpse of Hogwarts. It was massive and the most gorgeous view I've ever seen. I had been inside Hogwarts before, but never had I seen the outside.

Once we reached the big front doors, a stern looking teacher greeted us. She told us about the houses and how we would get sorted. That lead me to think, what would be my house? My Father was in Gryffindor, but my mother was in Hufflepuff. I think I wanted to be Hufflepuff, but I knew most people expected me to be in Gryffindor. I didn't mind though. I would still see everyone else through the day. We walked into the great hall and I smiled. I had seen it during the daytime but at night it was stunning. The candles glistened against the dark stormy night and all the older years black hats were adding to the perfect look.

We walked up to the front and the sorting started. I knew Marlene wanted to be in Gryffindor but I didn't know about my new friends. I few names caught my attention such as Sirius Black. His family were pure bloods and apparently, all in Slytherin, and all extremely obnoxious. But, to my surprise, Black was put in Gryffindor. There wasn't much cheering however, because none of the Gryffindors wanted a Black in their house. I was thinking about how his family was going to react but then got distracted as a pretty girl called Lily was also put in Gryffindor. I didn't pay much attention until i heard the name Frank Longbottom (A/N I know Frank's name would of been after because it's in alphabetical order but I wanted to put this in) I knew his mother, Augusta. I was thinking about the last time I met Mrs Longbottom but then suddenly realised my name was being called.

"Lock, Sophia" I heard the woman say (I couldn't remember her name. I think it was something like McBonalall). There was slow muttering through the tables. I sighed. Always the same. I ran down to the hat, where it was placed on my head.

"Ahh, hello Sophia. Let's take a look. Ambitious, but kind. Loyal, but untrusting. Brave but shy. Clever but fun-wanting. What to do? I think..." I took a deep breath.

"RAVENCLAW" I felt shocked but not upset. Ravenclaw had some nice people. I went over to the table with Blue Robes. I sat down next to a blonde girl who was sorted just before Frank. "Hello" she said dreamily. "My name is Pandora Lestrange" (A/N most of the websites i found said she was a Lestrange but correct me if I am wrong. Also I'm pretty sure she was older than the Marauders but as a Luna lover, I wanted her to be part of the plot) "I'm Sophia" I replied before looking back to the sorting.

"Lupin, Remus" I saw a Sandy haired boy walk to the hat. I suddenly couldn't breathe. Remus Lupin? My Father told me he was a werewolf. Why was he at Hogwarts? Surely he's dangerous! I shook my head, knowing that if Dumbledore was fine with him being here then I should be too. I then realised Marlene was sitting under the sorting hat. I felt my heart ache. I loved her but there is no way she is in Ravenclaw.

"GRYFFINDOR" the hat shouted. I reminded myself that I could still see her during the day.  I felt myself cheer up. I then watched my two new friends be sorted and they were both put in Gryffindor. I felt happy for Marls that she had people she knew in her house.

After the sorting was finished, we started the feast. It was really good but I felt lonely. Pandora was chatting to a blonde boy who looked a year older then us. (A/N if you haven't guessed it's Xenophilous -  not sure if I spelt that right sorry! I think he was older than Pandora but I can't get a straight answer)

After everyone had eaten, Dumbledore said a speech. It was nothing I didn't know before but I listened carefully just in case. We then followed a prefect to the Ravenclaw common room. We had to answer a riddle to get in. A horrible thought struck me. "What if we can't answer the riddle..." I asked nervously. The prefect looked at me and said "well then you wait until someone comes along who can answer it" I could tell that this had never happened to him.

The common room was beautiful, with a statue of Rowena Ravenclaw in the middle. Books piled up in the corners and the view was beautiful. Even though I wished I was with Marlene, I couldn't deny, I was going to love it here.
