A time skip here ( first year to second year). There's going to be one more in a later chapter but for now don't worry!

The four of us run towards the barrier and within seconds we were standing on a busy platform with witches and wizards everywhere. Straight away we were pulled into a massive hug. "Alice!" Marlene shrieked. I was more civilised. "Alice I missed you!" However before she could reply we were approached by another girl. "Sophia! Marlene! Alice!" We turned to see Mary running towards us. "Mary!" Alice squealed and pulled her into another hug. After we had hugged for a full two minutes I realised my parents were still standing there.
"Mum, Dad, this is Alice" Alice blushed. "And Mary" Mary was too stunned to speak as she had heard countless stories about the Minister of Magic. Mum smiled and Dad shook their hands. While I was introducing my friends I had noticed we were getting a few looks our way, but now more parents were certain their child was ok, they let their eyes wander onto us. I tried to ignore it but luckily Dad sensed I was uncomfortable. "You four better get on the train, it'll be leaving soon" I gave them a final hug before allowing Marlene to pull me away.
"Where's Lily and Dorcas?" I ask, noticing their absence. "They went to get a cabin, strange how many first-years are taking up an entire carriage to themselves" Mary replied grinning. I laugh, remembering how we were exactly the same last year.
Finally I see a flame of ginger hair, and a strand of black and I push the door open. "MARLENE!" Dorcas screamed and practically strangled Marls. "Where's my big welcome!" I teased and Dorcas turned to me "SOPHIE!" she screamed and pulled me into a bone-crunshing hug. I glared at her and she smirked back. "When your all done screaming like monkey's, I'd like to see my friend." Lily said. I wasn't sure if she was joking or not. "Lily!" I squealed but she was looking me up and down with her emerald eyes
"Did you grow again?" She asked and I blushed. "Maybe..." I muttered under my breath. Mary turned to face me. "Sophia Lock, as your best friend," (Marlene coughed) "I order you to stop growing and let me be taller than you for once." I grin and sit down, "I don't see that happening any time soon."
.........
We entered the Great Hall and I left my friends to sit at the Ravenclaw table. I smiled at Pandora, the girl I shared a dorm with and she smiled back. "You know, it's funny." She said in her dreamy voice, "I share rooms with you, sit next to you in almost every lesson and at every feast, but I still don't know much about you," I realised that this was true and I hadn't even made an effort to get to know the girl.
"Sorry..." I say sheepishly. "I'm Sophia?" I say, holding out my hand. "Pandora" she said, shaking it. We laugh and I felt a strong liking towards the girls sweet voice. I turned to watch the sorting.
There were a few noticeable names in the list, such as Barty Crouch - a very famous ministry official's son, Evan Rosier - a pure blood who looked surprisingly sweet, and even more interesting, Regulus Black. Sirius' brother. We all turned to look at Sirius, who sat up in his chair and watched the younger boy walk towards the stool confidently. He had a smirk on his face and I could tell he thought this was pointless. It was. Even with Sirius' anomaly, it was clear the Black's were the house of the snake.
"SLYTHERIN" the hat shouted, and the table wearing green cheered louder than it had for any other student. I wonder why.
Authors Note
Hi, me again! I just wanted to say writing this was really hard to write as I kept on accidentally switching into the present tense, so I was thinking... should I change the tense I write in... let me know what you think... also if you spot any random changes in tense that's why, I might of missed one or two while editing!
