The Day it All Began

The day had arrived faster than anyone on earth could have thought or hoped. The day that virtual reality would be fully immersive. None could anticipate the shockwaves it would generate in gaming itself. It all began with the launch of the gaming system known as NRV Gear. The first ever fully immersive VR system developed by Akihiko Kayaba. As well as the upcoming launch of his game: Sword Art Online. The ads made it look like one of the best games ever created. And if anyone had enough money saved up, they were buying one of each.

This was where it began for him. A young boy with messy dark green hair looked at the NRV Gear and the game copy he had. This was where he'd finally make friends. His social life could best be summed up as the question "what's a social life?" He looked around his room full of superhero posters and comics. These were what kept him from having a social life. Most people would tease him at best about liking this nerdy stuff. But there were those few who tormented him about it. Not helping his case was the fact he would mumble theories to himself as well as create his own heroes.

But in gaming... there were plenty of people who were nerdy like him. That was the whole reason he was able to convince his mother that buying a NRV Gear with SAO was a good idea. He put the gear on and touched all his joints to calibrate the machine. The display clock read 12:59. He smiled with the thought of how this would finally change his life forever.

"Link start!" He said.

His green eyes closed and he saw a swirl of colors as he dove into the game that just launched. He saw in front of him a blue screen asking for a name.

He sighed in disappointment and put in another name.

Iron Guy

He was confused. Could he not use a copyrighted name? He tried another one.

Eagle-Eye

Denied. Username cannot be copyrighted character.

He was disappointed. He couldn't have his name be a character that inspired him. Then a thought occured to him. There was one character that copyrights can't be claimed for. After all, the character was Roman mythology.

Jupiter

"Oh, come on!" He said aloud.

He began thinking of other things he could use to give himself the motivation to prove to himself and his classmates that he could make friends. He could do it. He thought of the perfect word to use.

Before he entered it, he had a brief thought of maybe shortening it. Only removing two letters.

He selected yes. After giving more time into customizing how he wanted his avatar to look, he was ready to begin his quest to make any amount of friends. The strange area he was in disappeared in a flash of white and he found himself in a town square. In his inventory was a simple sword. After equipping it, he looked around for anyone on their own.

There was one guy who was standing just as he was. He was approached by him in minor caution. Deku immediately began panicking.
