Chapter 1: Noticed

Kayli's POV

I walked into 4th period class with no one noticing me... Like always. It's nothing special and it doesn't bother me.

I'm Kayli, the invisible girl you could say. No one ever notices me, or even talked to me. That's the way I like it. I'm the shadow of this school, even the teachers hardly notice me. I don't even care, I don't have friends either. But you know the reason why.

I sit in my seat next to the window. There's no one here yet, I'm always early. I could leave class without anyone noticing. The bell rang and I saw people running in the halls going to class. But I just put my earplugs in, listen to music, and put a book up to make it look like I'm reading. People run in to get seats in the back, not that it's gonna help cause the teacher will catch them.

I saw a group of people come in the room at the corner of my eye. They sat in the seats in front of me and next to me. I pretend not to notice them at all, which I'm really good at. I could block people out in the blink of an eye.

Half way through the class, I was still listening to music when a note landed on my desk. I opened it and read:

Hi! I'm Melissa! I'm the girl that's sitting next to you.

That's weird... I look at the girl next to me. Melissa looks like she has dirty blonde hair, she's wearing glasses and has a Captain America shirt on. I'm not gonna ask... She saw me looking and waved hi at me. She can see me?

Uhh... Ok I guess... I'm Kayli. Nice to meet you?

I threw the note back at her. That's actually surprising, no one ever saw me. Yes I'm a person, but no one EVER paid attention to me.

You seem lonely, wanna eat lunch with me and my friends? We all could be friends.

I was shocked at the word friends, i felt my eyes open more than they are. Friends... That's not in my vocabulary.... Not anymore... Stupid middle school.....

4th period had 5 minutes left, so I packed my stuff and went for the door. Of course no one noticed, but I looked back to see Melissa and her friends staring at me. Did she already tell them about me? I mouthed the words to Melissa I'll meet you at lunch. She nodded at my words like she understood. Then I left.

I got to lunch when the bell rang. I'm safe from the hallways thank god. I sat down in the middle table, where I always sit. I pulled up the hood on my grey hoodie and just sat there. Then I saw people sitting next to me, I saw Melissa in front of me and other people that came with her.
"That's her guys." Melissa said with a smile.
"Wow are you serious?" The boy with shrub hair said with a chuckle. Jerk...
"Shut up Aaron.." The girl with the bento said.
"Anyways Kayli, let me introduce you to everyone," Melissa started saying and pointing to everyone, "That's Aaron with the shrub hair, that's Ricky with the glasses, that's Alyssa with the bento and the one sitting next to you, that's Hayley and she's Aaron's cousin, that's Liv with the blonde hair, and that's Izzy with the Swords Art Online shirt." She finished saying.
"You'll meet more people soon." Alyssa said giving me a hug.
"Welcome to the squad!" Izzy shouted as she made the hug tighter.

They finally let go and I was able to breathe.
"Are you mute?" Ricky said as him and Aaron started laughing.
"Shut up why don't you? You're annoying.." I said glaring at the boys.
"Calm down and look at me and the girls!" Alyssa said blocking Aaron and Ricky from my view.
"We're more awesome. They're always like this." Melissa said as she pulled my hood off.
"Hn.." I said as I pulled it back on and threw my lunch away. I feel like this is middle school, I feel like I met these guys before.
"Hey... Why did you throw your lunch away?" Hayley said as I walked back.
"I'm getting an apple instead of this food." I said walking away, feeling the stares the guys were giving me.

Melissa's POV

We all watched Kayli walk away to the lunch line to get an apple. Why didn't she just bring one from home?
"She's a weirdo." Aaron said laughing.
"Shut up Aaron! Did you notice that she looked kinda familiar?" I said thinking about my question.
"A little but not really." Liv said but you could tell she was thinking about it too.
"Does it matter? Like seriously." Ricky said as he waved Louie over.
"Hey guys." Louie said sitting with the guys. Then they all talked, typical.

"Hey.." Kayli said sitting down, eating her apple.
"Hey! It's been, like, forever!" Izzy said as we laughed except the boys and Kayli.
"Well I'm gonna go.." She said getting her stuff.
"Go where? To class?" Alyssa asked.
"Home. See ya tomorrow I guess." Kayli said as she disappeared behind the cafeteria doors.
