In the heart of the Leaf Village, 11 genin were kneeled before the 5th Hokage and the Konoha Council.

"I'm sure you all are aware of the Chunin Exams being cohosted this year by the Hidden Sand Village." Tsunade starts, hands firmly on her hips. "Your Sensei's have recommended you all to participate in it. But, there's something I would like you all to do."

The atmosphere dips low and tension fills the room. Her next words make this possible. "I've gotten intel from Jiraiya. The Akatsuki are more than likely to make a move on Lord Kazekage. So while you will be going to the Chunin Exams as normal, you will also collect any information or anything suspicious and watch the Kazekage."

"Lady Hokage, if I may?" Neji asks, lifting his head. When she nods he speaks his mind. "I can't help but think that if we snuck around the village that would cause suspicion on us. Especially if we failed our mission and the Kazekage was captured."

"I agree with him." Shino says. "Sneaking around the Sand will only cause problems."

"We've already thought of countermeasures to such an event." Koharu states.

The door behind them opens and they turn to see Shikamaru leading Temari in the room.

"There you are, Lady Temari. Right on time too." Tsunade says. Temari walks up to her desk and shakes her hand.

"Thank you, Lady Hokage. When I received the letter I had to get here as quickly as possible."

"That's fine. Did you tell anyone else about this?"

She shook her head. "No, not even my brothers. You said that we would keep this between us."

"Indeed I did." Tsunade nods.

"Wait, I have a question." Kiba says, confusing written all over his face. "Why are we keeping this secret from the Kazekage? Isn't that going to put him in danger if he's not ready?"

Shikamaru is the one to turn and answer his question. "Naturally you are correct, but we are doing this to bait the Akatsuki in."

"We're going to us the Kazekage as bait?" Sakura blurts, still like most of her classmates that didn't understand this part of the mission.

"They're the Akatsuki's goal." Shikamaru says, turning to her simultaneously. "My father and I theorized that if the Akatsuki already know that we have information on the abilities of three of their members their likely to send new members which we can use to gain more information. Or even capture one of them."

"That's just wishful thinking." Tayuya glares up at him. "If they're more likely to send another member, then they're more likely to send someone stronger than before."

Shikamaru smirks and gestures to Neji. "And that's why we have the prodigy of the Hyuga on this mission as well. His skills far exceed the level of Jounin. We were all in the agreement that he would be able to deal with anything thrown at him."

"Are you saying this mission is being carried out simply because of me? Wouldn't that put the rest of them at risk?"

"No." Tsunade answers. "If anything it will give them experience to grow. We've only got a handful of experienced Shinobi because of what happened two years ago. We've had to adopt a system to push anyone with special potential, and you all have that quality."

"Before it is forgotten," Homura starts, staring blatantly at Tayuya. "You're movements will be under strict watch. You have not yet shown full loyalty to the Leaf Village."

Tayuya growls at him and bites her lip hard enough to draw blood to keep herself from talking. She knows it won't help her case. Ino gives her a look that demands her not to say anything.
