Training

Sakura had used all of the previous night to psych herself up. She was finally training with Kakashi-Sensei. Sure, Tsunade was definitely scary, but Kakashi was on another level when he got serious. She remembered when he told her that he'd fought Sasuke, and while that still bothered her, it was something she put to the back of her mind. She already prepared herself to ask about that fight and his thoughts on it to compare herself to Sasuke.

She knew it was something one wasn't supposed to do. To compare oneself to another is damning your own skills, but this was about more than her. If she dreamed to step in front of Naruto and bring Sasuke back, she needed to be stronger than him, or at least be able to contend.

This training was perfect for that fact. She scratched at her arms as she walked to a training field Gaara had given them under her Sensei's request. A flat plain of dry land filled with cacti. Training field 7 as they called it. Ironic this was where she would be training to surpass her teammates.

She finally arrived at the clearing and kept up the same pace until she came across her Sensei sitting on a small rock with a book in his hand. She didn't have to say a word as he somehow noticed her from afar, shut his book and put it away before standing up to greet her with an eye smile and a wave.

"Ah, Sakura." He said when she stepped in front of him. "There you are. Right on time."

"I'm surprised you're on time." She remarked with a little emphasis. "I'm not talking to an imposter, am I?"

"Can't I be on time for once?" He said and through the mask she could see an amused smirk if she looked hard enough. "Besides," he ruffled her hair. "We've got a whole bunch of training to get through and not a bunch of time to do it. It's a cram session of sorts."

"Hey!" She waved his hand away and straightened her hair as her cheeks reddened. "Just try to make it a habit, Sensei. It's good to come when scheduled."

He only hummed which convinced her that he would not make it a regular occurrence. "Anyways, we've dallied long enough. It's time to-"

"Sensei, wait!"

Both student and teacher turned to where the voice had come from as Tenten landed in the clearing. Before she even spoke a word, Kakashi could tell with his sharp eyes that she was different. Something about her was different.

Kakashi found himself impressed. Already knowing what she was going to say to him, he decided to feign ignorance. "Ah, what a pleasant surprise, Tenten. What can I do for you?"

She steeled herself with a breath and bowed. "I-I was hoping you could train me as well, Sensei. I know that you aren't exactly my teacher but I was hoping to receive experience and advice from you."

She closed her eyes tightly with a gulp. "N-Neji and Lee; they both are so strong. Leagues ahead of me. They both work so hard and... no matter how hard I train I'm unable to close the gap between us. My fighting style is mainly support; something that I worked hard to change. I became an inventor to change that, to amplify my weapons...but it it's not enough. I can't close to gap with just my weapons, Sensei! I need your help!"

She poured all her feelings out. She didn't mean to say all of that, but once she went in she couldn't control it. Red spread across her face and she was lucky her face was down.

"You're really something special, Tenten." He said softly.

Those words caused her eyes to widen in surprise, the redness fading away.

"Raise up your head." She did as she was told and received a soft chop to the head.

"I'm proud of you. Not many can admit that their signature style of fighting isn't enough. That takes courage." He chopped once more. "But don't sell yourself short. You're already the strongest weapon specialist in Konoha. You've made great strides. I'm sure Guy is proud of you as well."
