Riona's POV
I am sitting on the ground, a glass of beer on my hand. It's my fifth, or sixth, or another number. I have lost count. A knock comes in. "My queen? May I come inside?" I hear my head general's voice out of my door. "No." I say, but my voice sounds unsteady because of the alcohol. "My queen, you don't sound very well. It is my duty to check up on you." She says and opens the door.
She comes inside, with her sword at hand. "Why are you so persistent?" I ask her. "Queen Riona, why are you on the ground?" She says and walks quickly towards me, ignoring my question.
"I'm fine." I tell her. "You were drinking." She tells me. "It's not that I have a glass of beer in my hands." I tell her ironically. "Why were you drinking?" She asks me and takes the beer from my hands. I frown as she takes my alcohol away. "I don't have any particular reason. I am just so fucking tired of everything." I say and laugh at my pain.
Morrigan takes a sip from what used to be my glass of beer. "This is strong." She tells me. "I wanted to get drunk, but alcohol doesn't really affect me so this was my only resort." I explain. "Since you don't drink much alcohol, if you drink all of it, you may not be sober anymore." I continue. "That's fine. It's been years since I last got drunk." She drinks some more beer.
"So what are you tired of exactly?" She asks me. "My obligations as queen, the potential of war being high, having to behave 'as a queen must'...pretending I hate you." I say, not applying any filter to my words, because of the beer. "What do you mean, my queen?" Morrigan asks me, who is devouring already her second glass of beer. I roll my eyes at her. "Do you remember the first time we met?" I ask her. "Yeah. I don't think I can ever forget your deadly stares." She tells me and I chuckle. "Right then, I hated everything about you; your dramatic entry, your belittling stare even though I am your queen, your father, but most importantly the fact that I couldn't bring myself to hate you." I say and travel back to that moment.
FLASHBACK
"My queen," my general says, "since I am old enough to retire, I present you, your new head general, my daughter, Morrigan." He says and a woman, who I suppose is his daughter comes in.
Her black hair is cut short and her body covered in a metallic armor. She is tall, most probably taller than me and she has a sword in the case tied to her waist. Her black eyes and her emotionless expression, make me feel threatened.
"My queen, I am from now on at your service." She says, kneeling down. Right now, I hate the fact that in my kingdom, the queen can't choose her army general. "If you allow me, my queen, I would like to be dismissed." My ex-general says. "Very well, you are dismissed. Morrigan, I would like to have a word with you, so if you may, get up." I say and her father dissapears.
Morrigan's POV
"You should know, that I am not in favor of you." The queen tells me. Her tall frame, seems smaller now that I am in front of her. But her beauty hasn't lessened one bit. Her blonde hair is braided and wrapped in a bun and her brown eyes pierce in my soul, but I try not to seem intimidated.
"Your father always seeked out war. I kept trying to prevent it. You being his daughter, I don't expect anything different. I didn't like your father, I don't like you. The least you can do, is behave maturely. I would appreciate if you didn't cause any war." She tells me, emphasizing the word 'appreciate'.
"My queen, my decisions will be taken after prudent thinking. I won't risk doing anything without analyzing every possible outcome, much more when it comes to declaring a war. You should also be aware of the difference between my father's values and mine. You can rest assured that I won't remind you of any previous head general." I tell her and her face softens. "I would also like to inform you that I am not in favor of my father either. That doesn't mean that I am in favor of my position, serving you, although I will do my best to do so." I say, telling her in a nice manner that I hate her guts. She is always so pretentious. What's the big deal about her?
