"Do you see him?" Newt asked as they entered the busy, richly decorated interior.

"If I saw him I'd have told you by now," the brunette huffed as her eyes scanned the crowded space. Nothing. Absolutely nothing. Where could the damn thing have gone?

"Excuse me." A bank employee approached them. "Can I help you, sir?" He resolutely ignored the Asian woman who was half-bent as she tried to peer between people's feet.

"No, I was just. . . just. . . waiting." He glanced over at the woman in the hopes she'd have good news, but she'd wandered several feet away with her eyes still on the ground. He quickly stepped away from the employee and went to find a seat on the nearby bench. Coincidentally, the short man who'd shoved past Lyra from before was also there, presumably waiting for something.

"Hi," the unknown man greeted him. "What brings you here?"

Distractedly, Newt answered, "same as you." He kept his gaze on Lyra whose search had not been interrupted by a bank worker.

"You're here to get a loan to open up a bakery?"

"Yes," he replied absent-mindedly as he twisted around in his seat in an effort to help the brunette.

"What are the odds of that? Well, may the best man win I guess." The other man stuck out his hand genially.

At the same moment, Lyra froze in the middle of the glossy, tiled floor as the sound of loose change spilled onto the ground. Newt's gaze immediately tracked to where hers had fallen. The naughty Niffler was currently pulling out several thousand dollars' worth of jewelry from an unsuspecting woman's purse. He stood quickly. "'Scuse me."

Indifferent to the surrounding people, the brunette launched herself through the forest of legs and towards the magical creature. Newt took a much more practical approach wove around the edge of the room.

Exclamations of irritation followed the Asian woman's wake as she chased after the Niffler who was now happily pulling a shiny belt buckle from a pointed shoe. Her distraction allowed the curly-haired man to approach the creature more subtly as a plan B in case she failed— which she most likely would, but Lyra always acted before she thought.

Unfortunately for her, the Niffler moved a lot faster than she did and it was now located on top of a man's (but not Newt's) briefcase. She groaned and changed paths, still crouched low to the ground.

The sound of clattering coins finally made her straighten and she swallowed back the shout of aha! that threatened to escape. Deciding to risk it all without much thought to the scene it would cause, Lyra launched herself forward and used the slippery tiles to slide on her stomach. Her outstretched hands reached for the little troublemaker as it happily filled its pouch with coins. Its attention turned to the nearby dog who was sporting a shimmering medal on its collar when her hands finally closed around its furry body. She let out a whoop of excitement: "I got you!"
