10 minutes, it has been 10 minutes since he was up in my room and somehow he still has the energy to throw things around the house.
"Come on Grace, think! We have to get out of here."
'But how?' I thought, I could jump out of the window but it's a two-storey drop... I could wait until he leaves the house or falls asleep, but my the sound of him downstairs, I don't think that's happening any time soon.
My phone! But who was I supposed to call? Last time I called the cops about this, they didn't do anything and I was left alone to be punished by my father... I could always try again, but I don't want to relive the consequences of calling them the first time.
I guess I would just have to wait it out...
30 minutes of waiting and he was still breaking things. I guess I could always make a run for it? It's completely crazy, but by the sounds of things, my father isn't stopping any time soon.
All I need to do is put a change of clothes in my backpack, and get the rest of my savings. I'm almost 18 so I just have to wait a few weeks, then I get the money from my mothers will. Until then, I can stay in a motel; And after that, I can get as far away from my father as possible.I slowly moved out from under my bed, making sure to be as quiet as I can, though, that was pretty hard with my belongings everywhere. I grabbed the first outfit I could find and shoved it into my backpack, along with my money.
I pulled my phone out from my pocket and dialled the one number I hoped I would never be calling again. Surely enough, ringing could be heard echoing around the house. This was my only chance out, my dad always leaves the home phone in the kitchen, so I just have to make it down the stairs and out the front door before he returns to wherever he was.
"Where is that Goddamn phone!" He bellowed.
This was my one shot, my only chance to get away. I was certain he was in the kitchen now. I jumped down the stairs, I didn't care about being quiet now, I just needed to be faster than him.
"Grace! Get your ass over here right now! Where the fuck do you think you're going, little girl!" He was running towards me now. I dodged him and made a beeline towards the door, thankfully, it was unlocked. I yanked the door open but ran into something hard.
I looked up and standing there was Alex, before either one of us could say anything, my father came straight for us, yelling at the top of his lungs.
"Come on!" I yelled, grabbing hold of Alex's hand. "Run!"
We did just that. It must've been an hour before we stopped running, I had no idea where we were, but we were far enough from my father... For now.
"Are you okay? Did he hurt you?" Rushed Alex, who was scanning me for any injuries, despite how tired he must be after running for that long.
"Yeah... I'm fine." I said, even though I felt as if I might pass out, but I couldn't let him know that.
He closed the distance between us and looked me right in the eyes. We stayed like that for what seemed like forever, not that I minded, of course.
He sighed and pulled me towards him, engulfing me in a hug; and that, was even better."You can't go back to him, stay with me." He said into my neck as he pulled me closer to him, and I honestly didn't think that was possible.
"I can't..." I whispered.
"What do you mean?" He questioned whilst pulling back to look at me, "of course you can." The look on his face hardened, before he engulfed me in another hug. "You're staying with me so I know that you're safe. End of discussion." He sighed.
"No, I can't." I said pulling away from him completely. "Your house is too close to where my father is. Besides, I can take care of myself. I have enough money to last me until my birthday; And on my birthday, I'll be getting the money my mother left when she passed away. I'm fine."
"Well I'm staying with you. To protect you."
I sighed, knowing I wouldn't be able to win this.
"I care about you, okay? I don't want to see you get hurt... I want to protect you, and I will protect you, no matter what."
