Nearing my neighbourhood, I opened up my backpack and pulled out another cigarette. Though, I couldn't seem to find my lighter, I must have dropped it in the park when I got into the tree.
"Shit." I cursed, there were only a few hours until my father would be home, so I would have to buy another tomorrow. Just as I started walking again, I heard a sound coming from the alleyway across the street. It sounded like something got knocked over, probably just a rat scavenging for food or whatever.
I just need to calm down and get home. "Nothing's going to happen, just keep walking and you'll be okay." I told myself.
Picking up my pace, I heard another noise but this time it was so much closer, like it came from right behind me. I spun around, ready to punch whatever or whoever was behind me, but my fist came in contact with someone's hand, rather than their jaw, like I had hoped.
"Woah... Calm down," He chuckled, letting go of my fist. "I'm not going to hurt you. You dropped this back there, I just wanted to give it back."
I looked down, and in his hand was my lighter.
"What, so you followed me? Those things are only a few dollars, but thanks, you just saved me 2 bucks." I said, rolling my eyes as I grabbed the slim, white lighter and turned around, determined to get home and get some rest.
"I didn't follow you, I have to go this way anyway. I guess we may as well walk together?" He suggested cheerfully.
"No."
"No?"
It's like he's never been rejected before.
"Yes, 'no'. I believe that is what I said. Now if you excuse me, I would like to walk home in peace." There was something about this guy that just irritated me, maybe I was just tired but either way he was pissing me off.
"Alex."
"What?"
"My name is Alex."
"Am I supposed to be impressed or something? You're not Alex Gaskarth so why should I care." I sighed.
"Just being polite, unlike you. But that's fine, I probably caught you at the wrong time of the month anyway."
I stopped walking and turned to face him, he looked over at just the right time for me to take a swing. This time, my fist did come in contact with his jaw. His head snapped to the side, and he was clearly shocked. His hand came up to his face and he actually looked hurt.
I realise that by doing this, it makes me no better than my father. Sure he was being a dick and he said the one thing you never say to a girl... Before it would've been self-defence but what do I say now? It wasn't self-defence because he wasn't trying to attack me...
"Fuck. Look, I'm sorry. Are you okay?"
There were tears in his eyes, but I'm assuming that's just from shock."Yeah I'm fine," he said rubbing his jaw. "Seriously, you need to relax."
I sighed, "Whatever, but if you say something like that to a girl again, expect the same consequence."

Okay, what did you guys think? I thought I would steer away from the typical/cliché thing where someone tries to attack the girl and the guy comes to save her so here's a different version?
I don't know, this is a lot worse than I thought it would be. Let me know what you think? xx
