Aizawa POV:
My brother and niece were coming over, they never came over. I'd been up all day cleaning with my boyfriend, we were determined to make this week perfect. Hizashi, my boyfriend, is now helping me set up my niece's room when the phone rings. Hizashi gets up and answers it. He slowly re-enters the room after hanging up. "Sho?" He said as I work on making the bed, "Mhm?" I respond, I pull the covers in place and begin to put pillows on the bed. "Honey, there's been a robbery." I look up, anger wells inside me. "Why did they call us? I took the week off! There are plenty of other heroes who can take care of it." I say, angrily arranging the stuffed animals on my niece's bed. "No- That's not-" He cuts himself off with a sigh, "Sho, you'd better sit." Hizashi says quietly, I look up at Hizashi, he's always loud. Now I am sure something is wrong, "Hizashi what's wrong?" I ask, a lump is already forming in my throat. "Hikage and Hinode were involved, they're at the hospital." I jump from my seat, this can't be happening. My brother and niece are both in the hospital at once? "We have to go." I breathe, eyes widened from fear. My body has reacted without me knowing, and I am already halfway to the car. I look to see Hizashi not far behind.
The drive to the hospital was terrible, all the thoughts rushing through my head. When we finally arrive, I rush to the doors as Hizashi parks. I rush to the front desk, "I need to see Hinode and Hikage Aizawa." I say urgently, the startled nurse begins to type into her computer, Hizashi enters the room swiftly. The nurse looks up, "I'm so sorry, but Hinode didn't make it, there was nothing we could do." My heart drops upon hearing these words. "But Hikage just came out of surgery and should be fine. Would you like me to take you to her?" The nurse asks, I simply nod, Hizashi walks in and we follow her to Hikage's room.
When we arrive, Hizashi thanks the nurse, who walks off. I look at my unconscious niece. "This is so fucked up." Is all I can think at the moment. I walk over and brush her black hair from her face. Her pale skin had wires glued to it, all leading back to one huge monitor, to one huge machine. She's just five, none of this should be happening. I sigh, another nurse enters. "Shota Aizawa? There's a man here to see you." I let out another sigh and follow him out.
I walk out to see Tsukauchi, a detective that I have worked with before. "Hey, I heard what happened to Hinode, I'm so sorry." He says, he hands me an envelope. "From what we can tell, it was a robbery gone wrong." I feel nothing but rage. "Who pulls that kind of shit on a five-year-old, Tsukauchi?" I ask, Tsukauchi shrugs sympathetically, "You and I both know that there are some sick people out there." He says, then he nods to the envelope. "We found that in the car, it was addressed to you." There is a pause, then he pats my shoulder. "Take care, and if there is anything you need, call.
I look down at the envelope, my name is written in bold lettering. When I go back into the room, Hizashi asks about it. "I'm not sure, but this same envelope fell out of Hinode's pocket three years ago. When I asked, Hinode said he hoped I'd never find out." I say, slowly, I cautiously break the seal on the envelope.
Dear Shota,
If you're reading this, I'm most likely dead. Either that or you've been snooping. Yesterday, a man across the street from me was shot. His daughter went into government care. As I kissed Hikage goodnight tonight, I thought of what might have happened if it were me. A bit morbid, I know, and I hope it never happens. But if it does, I have a one-year-old, I need a plan in place. So in the unlikely event that I am to die by some horrible force, I want Hikage to go to you. She loves you so much, and I know you love her as if she were your own kid. I feel like this would be the best option. If you are reading this, and I am, in fact, dead than please don't mourn for me too long, alright? Life's too short for that. Love ya, Sho.
Sincerely Your Big Bro,
Hinode
Tears run down my cheeks as I pass the letter to Hizashi. He looks to me in shock, I nod. "I'm gonna do it, Yamada. She needs me." He gives a small smile, "Than I'll be right here to support you." I muster as much of a smile as I can manage. Suddenly, a small, weak voice breaks the deafening silence. "Sho?" I look over to see my niece staring at us.
Hikage POV:
The memories come flooding back, a man came into the store demanding money and threatening everyone with a knife, my dad spoke up, the man stabbed my dad, I screamed, the man slashed across my chest. The last thing I remember is the man running away. I look up at my uncles, one question on my mind, and I'm sure I already know the answer. I look at them, I have to know for sure, my lip trembles. "Dad?" It's all I can manage to say, Shota won't even look me in the eye. Hizashi gives me a sympathetic look, "Oh, kiddo." He says, making his way over. I let out a sob, my tears fall like rain.
When I am discharged from the hospital, my uncle brings me to his home. Usually I'd be excited, but I immediately head to my bedroom. I lay on my bed in a fetal position and cry. Not long after, my uncle enters the room. "Kid?" I don't respond, I feel someone sit on my bed. After a brief pause, my uncle lets out a sigh. "Look, kid, I know it hurts. Despite what people say, it will always hurt." There was a short pause, and a shaky breath. "But I will still be here no matter what. We will get through this together, okay?" I turn to see tears streaming down Shota's face, I've never seen him cry before. He pulls me into a tight embrace and we both just cry.
Hizashi POV:
It has been a while since Hikage and Shota had left, so I decide to go check on them. I walk into the room, "Hon, you goo-" I'm cut off by shushing, I look to see Hikage asleep on Shota. I know he's going to be an amazing dad.
