We spend the night at the Hosu hospital, I am provided with a wheelchair. After a while of convincing, and some paperwork, I get to stay with my friends. I am in the bed across from Midoriya and next to Todoroki. The next morning we are talking. "Looking back now, what we did was incredible." Midoriya says, I nod. "Yeah. And after that last ditch effort..." Todoroki says thoughtfully, "I'd say it's a miracle we're still alive." Midoriya says, I nod in agreement, pulling myself into the wheelchair. "And with my leg, he could've easily killed me if he wanted to." Midoriya says, "He definitely let us live." Todoroki says, I nod, "Yeah, he could've done so much worse." I agree, my hand immediately goes to the scar on my chest. None of them know about my 'incident'.
"But you," Todoroki says turning to Iida, "Even with him coming at you with all that bloodlust, you still stood up to him. Impressive." I nod in agreement, "We came in there to save you, but I ended up need your help. Sorry." I say, disappointment in my voice. "Not at all, it's not like that, I-" Iida gets cut off by some visitors. "Ooh! All the little wounded warriors are awake!" Gran Torino says, Manual is beside him. "This is Mr. Tsuragamae, chief of police." Gran Torino says, the boys stand. "Please stay seated. Woof." Tsuragamae says, he is a man with the head of a dog. "Like I have a choice." I say under my breath, I get a look from Midoriya and an even worse one from Iida. Todoroki chuckles a bit, I smile. "So you're the U.A. students who put a stop to the hero killer? Woof. As for the hero killer, he is currently in treatment for his burns, broken bones, stab wounds, and a number of other serious injuries. Woof." He then proceeds into a history lesson. "At the dawn of this extraordinary era, the police moved to prioritize leadership and maintain the status quo, so they decided not to use quirks as weapons. The profession of 'hero' rose as one that would fill that void. Woof. Authorizing such a profession, the use of such power that could easily kill... it was a very criticized decision at first, but it would gain the public support., all because your predecessors acted morally and followed the law. But those without permission, those who inflicted harm without explicit instruction from the police and powers that be, even if they were to face someone like the hero killer... such an action would be a stunning breach of the law! Woof. You four, as well as your pro hero mentors, Gran Torino. Manual. Endeavor. The seven of you must be dealt with strictly and impartially!"
"Hold on a minute." Todoroki interjects, I sigh. "Todoroki-" Iida tries to stop him, but he's already angry, he cuts Iida off, "If Iida hadn't intervened, Native would be killed. And if Midoriya hadn't shown up both of them would be dead. Nobody even knew the hero killer was in town." Shoto says, I can feel his rage. "Todoroki, stop." I warn to no avail, he keeps going, "Should we let people die in the name of your 'law'!?" He asks, this time Midoriya tries to intervene, but the result is the same. "Everything turned out fine, so just forget about the law this time! Isn't it a hero's job to save people?!" Shoto shouts, Tsuragamae, who had been waiting patiently for him to stop finally speaks. "Some education you're getting from U.A. and Endeavor." Todoroki gets angrier, "You mutt..." He starts, I roll up and put a hand on his back, Iida tells him off. "Wait, just listen to what he's got to say!" Gran Torino says jumping between Todoroki and Tsuragamae, Tsuragamae continues, "All of that is what I'm required to tell you as the police. But the real issue is whether or not to discuss the matter publicly. If we let the story out, you will be praised, but you will not be able to escape punishment. But if we keep this to ourselves, we can claim Endeavor was the key operative and the burns will support our story. He'll receive the praise. Woof. We can easily hush up this whole matter before it causes problems. Woof. The choice is yours."
"Either way, our negligence is to blame. We have to take responsibility." Manual sighs, Iida apologizes. "Yeah, you caused big trouble for your mentor, so don't do it again." Manual says, Tsuragamae thanks us. "You could've led with that." Todoroki mumbles in an attempt to mask his embarrassment. "Oh and Aizawa, your father is aware of the situation." He says, I tense up a bit, "Damn it." I say, I'm gonna get a lecture when I get home. Later Midoriya gets a call from Uraraka. As he steps out the doctor comes in and gives Iida his diagnosis.
"Guys I just got off the phone with Uraraka..." I motion for him to sit, "Midoriya sit down." Todoroki pipes up, "Iida just got his diagnosis." We give Iida his time and let him tell when he's ready. "My left hand could have permanent damage. Both my arms were badly injured but my left got the worst of it. He severed something called the brachial plexus nerve. But they said that I might regain most of the feeling and use of my hand and fingers if I receive a nerve transplant. When I found the hero killer, My mind went blank. I should have told Manual before doing anything else. I may hate him but he wasn't wrong. Until I succeed in becoming a true hero... My left hand will serve as a reminder."Midoriya and I look at our own injured hands, then to each other and nod. Midoriya's injury from the sports festival and mine from the USJ attack. "Hey Iida." I say, he looks up and I offer a determined smile, Midoriya continues the thought. "Let's all get stronger together, yeah?" A nod passes between the three of us in understanding and determination.
"I'm sorry..." We all turn after hearing Todoroki apologize. I share a confused look with Iida and Midoriya. "For what?" I ask, he looks at his hand. "Whenever I get involved it's like people's hands get messed up or something... Is it like a curse?" We all look at him for a moment before bursting out laughing. "What on Earth are you talking about?" I say through laughs, Midoriya pipes up too, "That's too funny, Todoroki!" Iida wipes the tears from the laughter away. "Looks like Todoroki knows how to joke after all." He looks at us all before speaking. "I'm not joking. I'm like the handcrusher or something." We continue to laugh.
After two more days, and some special treatment from Recovery Girl, we are discharged. I get home quietly walking through the door, hoping no one is home. "NOT SO FAST MY LITTLE LISTENER!" I hear, I turn to see pops sitting at the table, God only knows how long he's been waiting there. Suddenly dad sits groggily up on the couch before looking over and seeing me. He stands up and walks over to me, there is a pause. I sit and await the lecture, but instead he crouches down and hugs me. "Are you okay? Where did he hurt you?" He asks, I hug him back, "He got my legs pretty bad, but Shuzenji healed me up real good." I reply, I step back and let him look. "We were so worried." He says, I smile. "It's okay, I'm fine, see." I spin around, jump, I even do a cartwheel. "All better. Good as new." They nod sharing a look of relief between them. "You did amazingly well out there. I'm glad you're safe." They both walk over, pulling me into a hug.
