A half hour passed until Bitter and Bitterness both returned. Ku's gut feeling turned out to be perfectly correct, for besides some crusts of bread, they did indeed bring a banana split in two. Sitting up as the halves of the banana were handed to him and Katharine, Henry commented: "It was funny when the Muppets made that joke."
Bitter did not look amused. His expression seemed to say: "Take the banana or go hungry!"
Take the halves of the banana Henry did, watching as Ku got ready to strike Bitterness. He was sure the other boy would have had it not sounded like a great tree had coming crashing through the house, followed by a roar from something that sounded as if it had come out of a nightmare.
Carchemish had arrived.
Looks of shock appearing upon the countenances of the henchmen, with Bitterness even asking "What do we do?". That certainly caused for a change of strategy, the four teens simply ran out of the room and locked the door behind them, leaving Ward's henchmen trapped within.
The moment Henry, Katharine, Ku and Miao ran upstairs, they were greeted by a sudden chill. Ward had the entire ground floor of his house set to the temperature he needed to keep from decaying. How had he done it so quickly? Was there a master switch for such an action?
Terrific. What were they going to do? Risk getting frost bite during the summer and run on out, possibly encountering Carchemish, Ward, the Black-Eyed Teen or who knew what? As Ward stepped into view armed with his freeze gun, they all paused. Without even looking at them he said: "Stay out of the way, kids. He can survive being frozen without any problems, you can't."
