JULIETTE
The lake was fun. We played volleyball and actually went in the water, even though it was freezing. It helped me forget all about Graham. It was 6 and Maverick suggested going out for drinks.
"I'm good." Archer said and Octavia frowned at him.
"Yeah, I'm the designated driver." I smiled and Caroline cried out in disappointment.
"You sure?" Jonah asked and Archer and I nodded.
"Alright, please be by your phones in case we almost die! Love you guys!" Eva called out and the rest of the group followed.
"If you want to go, I can drive."
"I'm not a huge fan of going out and getting drunk," I looked around us and saw a ferris wheel in the distance. "Let's go to a carnival."
And so we went. Archer and I climbed into the small ferris wheel seats and waited to get lifted up.
"I've always had a special love for ferris wheels." I smiled as we got lifted up.
Archer looked over at me, "Why? Did you have your first kiss on one?" he teased and I glared at him.
"No, I find them peaceful. You get the perfect view of the sky without-" I got interrupted with fireworks. And then I realized, it's the 4th of July.
"I almost fell off of one when I was in 3rd grade. Personally, I'm not the biggest fan of them."
"Oh. Uhm, I didn't know- I'm really sorry if you're uncomfortable-"
"I'm fine, Juliette. I'm actually enjoying this."
"Well, you're the first person I've been on a ferris wheel with." I smiled and his eyebrows furrowed together as he suppressed a smile.
"In 16 years, you've never been on a ferris wheel with anyone?"
"No. Ferris wheels are special to me. I wanted the first person to be special."
Archer finally smiled up at me before looking at the fireworks once more. "Well, I'm sorry if I'm not special-"
"I wouldn't have forced you to come with me otherwise." I interrupted him and soon felt heat rise up to my cheeks.
"I'm special to you? Is that what you're saying, Juliette?" He teased me and I sunk my head, fully embarrassed.
"I regret it now-"
"Juliette, if you must know, you are quite special to me too. It usually takes me a while to talk to people, and yet here we are, and we met each other not even 24 hours ago. I usually don't like talking to people, yet I like talking to you."
I'm sure my cheeks turned bright red. I must've looked like a tomato.
When I looked up, he was smiling at me. And oh my gosh, I'd like to have that engraved in my brain.
Archer smiling at me while at the top of a ferris wheel with fireworks in the back.
It was perfect.
