There were a thousand and one things Jenna thought might happen to her on a Friday night, but getting throat fucked by an alien the size of a god damn softball was not one of them. Her hand had just touched Vigilante's when she saw the creature scope her out. Shuddering bits of wet blood and tissue from its wings as it seemed to flash into the air directly at her head. She was caught off guard and at the mercy of the creature, as it burrowed against her face and began to easily pry her lips and jaw open. Fighting furiously she was thrown onto her back (again, why was this such a habit for her?) as she grabbed and struggled haplessly, not knowing how the creature was so strong, or what the actual fuck it was, but all the while knowing she didn't want to become some sort of host.

Her body writhing on the grass, she squirmed violently as she tried her absolute best to force the invader from her body, but just seconds in Jenna could see it was a losing battle. Without notice, a familiar voice called out next to her, and in the heavy frightening air around her, Jenna wouldn't realize until much later that it was Adrian's voice that had calmed her.

" Put your hands down, " his voice was low and confident, " just trust me! " His commanding tone caused her to react immediately, as she continued to gag and shudder for only a moment while trying to remain as still as possible. Just a few seconds longer a round was fired past her face. In an instant, the bulk of the creature was ruptured, and a quick burst of neon-toned blood coated her face and mouth.

Jenna lay there understandably stunned. The round Vigilante had shot off so close to her face had caused her ears to ring from the shot. She didn't move immediately, which caused Adrian to think he'd somehow missed and harmed her.

" No-no-no, " Vigilante repeated to himself as he holstered the small .45 caliber gun at his hip. " Fuck- fuck, " He continued on, his words rash as his voice cracked. He quickly fell to the grass beside Jenna, his knees sliding against the grass for a moment as his full weight came down and he rushed to her side.

" Don't be dead, please don't be dead. " Adrian repeated to himself, hunching over her as he gently moved a hand under her head and lifted it just slightly.

The panic was a trauma response. There had been people that he hadn't been able to protect. Good people. People who he loved that deserved more than the short sudden death of a bullet or agonizing burn of a knife. Because of that, he'd gotten more and more unhinged. He went so far as to murder anyone who had graffitied a building or sold drugs, the line becomes blurred after you've seen what he'd seen. But Jenna had become a friend, things became so much worse for him when people he cared about got hurt.

He immediately remembered their short spirited conversations about DnD and how she'd always entertain his jokes, which he knew were subpar at best. She was kind and warm, that type of person who would console a stranger if they were having a bad day. The longer she remained still the more he could feel his skin crawl. Adrian's labored breathing was becoming borderline manic as he remembered her deep, beautiful smile and the laugh lines on her face. He just wished she would smile, open her eyes- and show somehow that she was okay. They'd only been friends for a few weeks, but she'd stopped in the shop to see him nearly every day. Well, he was sure it wasn't just for him. Maybe she just really enjoyed Italian food?
