Allumos's POV
It had been hard for me to sleep last night after what happened and what I had briefly discovered, but I managed to get a little bit of rest.
When I woke up, I decided to head to the library almost immediately. If there was any information on the town and the old lord, it would likely be there. Perhaps there would even be information on amulets like the one the old lord possessed.
When I went inside, I saw Cal sitting at a desk reading some old book while taking notes. I knew from other villagers that Cal was often working on some paper or project that no one really knew, so I figured it was best not to bother him.
I went down the shelves slowly, grabbing any book and paper that seemed to be about the town and its history or about amulets and other magical objects. Any information I could get would likely help, since I knew very little about either topic.
In my defense, most people knew very little about these topics... I. Uh. I think. At least, where I came from, it wasn't very well known...
I sighed, and shook my head, setting down my small pile of books.
The library was small, and there weren't many books on these kinds of things to start with. I was actually impressed by how many books about this Cal had on this topic.
Sprinkled in between the books about magic, I'd grabbed books about the town's history, hoping it could help me learn more about the old lord.
I sat down, and picked up the first book. This should be easy. I've read books that are way more boring. I was a counselor for a town after all. The amount of legal documents I've had to read prepared me for this.
I took a deep breath and opened the book.
"Okay.."
The book I opened was a journal of some kind... like a war journal? The signature on the first page V.V, but there was a little label on it, in Cal's handwriting.
"According to Cal... Duke Valentino? First lord of Dragon's den.."
I sighed. I'd actually heard of this guy before. Just some old stories here and there. And there was a very old, very broken statue for him in the woods, I think? It was almost impossible to make out any features on it, it looked like it had been torn down, and then put back up, multiple times.
It sounded like this guy was some kind of... god? Or semi godly figure in this region.
I turned to the second page. I blinked in confusion.
There was a map tucked in between the pages.
Hm.. probably some directions to this guy's grave, or something..
I shrugged, and kept turning until finding the first page of actual records. I unintentionally started mumbling to myself as I read the pages.
"Day 301 of the effort.
I am keeping this journal to document our planned next move. Or my planned next move anyway.
The Captain has discovered that our camp is situated right above a wyverns den. I think that....
"Captain, listen! I found something, you have to consider this!" I said, running into the captain's war tent."
She looked up, her goat like horns covered in armored tips. I'd seen that she was not above literally using her head as a weapon, so we'd had some better armor for her horns made.
