Allumos's POV

The trip back to Dragon's Den was honestly not as awful as I thought it was gonna be. Perhaps the company of Leander and the kids made it better, and at the very least the trip felt much quicker.

Thankfully nothing truly of note happened, besides..

When a small wyvern landed on my head.

I yelped, and tried to stumble away from it, as Leander tensed, and the kids all shriek in delight.

"DRAGON!"

"It's shiny!"

"I want a dragon."

"Wyvern kids. They're called wyverns." Leander corrected softly. "Lord Allumos, there's a note tied to its leg." He offered.

I reached up, and found the note, opened it, and read it.

I stared at the note, finding it to be a letter from Ronin, checking up on me.

And introducing the wyvern as Bat.

A wyvern. ... named Bat.

Wyvern... Bat.

I blinked a few times, and looked at the Wyvern, who had flown over to a nearby branch.

Bat. The wyvern.

.. I was gonna have to ask Ronin about his naming choices.

The best thing to come from this was being able to write back to Dragon's den.

When we came into view of the town, I felt my shoulders relax, especially once I saw my home.

Home. Not the house. Home.

Hm.

I smiled. I'd missed the feeling of home..

When we stepped into town, I heard a "Daaaaa!"

I blinked, and looked down, finding Kayk stumbling towards me, Bri not far behind her. My eyes widened, and I stepped forward, dropping to my knees, and picking her up.

She cheered "daaaa" again, and patted my shoulder, hugging me as best she could with her little arms. I held her close, barely holding back tears. I cradled her to my chest, as she grabbed my hair, and started playing with it.

Bri laughed, as she walked over.

"She really missed you.. and.." she looked over my shoulder, at Leander and the three kids. "I assume these are the people you brought back?" She said, smiling politely.

Most of the people in the town welcomed the newcomers, although Ronin didn't seem very pleased about me bringing back a new guard. He didn't say anything against Leander joining the guard at least. Leander on the other hand seemed to adore Ronin's company.

Jericho had healed since I left.

When we walked into town, seeing him standing, and smiling, and waving, and happy had been the biggest relief I'd ever felt.

And fortunately, he had been eager to start building a home for the four. They were staying in my basement for now until the house was finished, but none of them had complained about it. In fact, they seemed very happy, and the three spent most of their time out, exploring the town.
