It had been a little more than half a moon since the attack. All the cats involved except for Ripplespots had recovered. Ferret had managed to catch some prey in the meanwhile. A scrawny shrew and a songlark, but it was better than nothing.
The ginger she-cat slowly bit into a vole, there had been no training since Minnowbloom was occupied. She twitched her ears at a rustle of leaves from where Daffodil was emerging from the trainee's den.
"What do you think Ivysting, Cherrybee, Aldertwig, Quietfang, Minnowbloom, and Sunnystep are talking about?" mewed the cream trainee, tilting her head.
She took another bite and pondered, "Probably about the colder weather or Glade Colony?"
Daffodil slowly nodded, "Where's Drift?"
"I think he went hunting with his mom. Why?"
"I just wanted to see if he wanted to share some prey," she shuffled her paws awkwardly.
Ferret perked her ears, now interested, "Does someone have a crush?" she teased.
"Maybe..." Daffodil whispered.
The ginger trainee smiled mischievously, "This is gonna be fun."
"Oh just you wait," Daffodil smacked her friend with her tail, "When you like someone, I'm gonna annoy the mouse bile out of you!"
"I'm never gonna like anyone," she stuck her tongue out, "especially not some tom!"
The cream trainee rolled her eyes, "Whatever! You'll- Oh! Ivysting's calling a meeting."
Ferret gave her friend a 'we will continue this later' look and joined her near the tree stump when the empress was standing. Ivysting's posture looked proud and sturdy, but her eyes gave off a more worried and serious look. Once everyone had gathered, the light gray tabby began.
"I have been discussing about Glade Colony's more aggressive threats lately with my council, mentors, healers, and Sunnystep and we have put together a counterattack," she dipped her head and gestured for Minnowbloom to speak.
The mentor gave a unsure moment of hesitance, "We believe that Glade Colony's source of strength is their surplus amount of herbs."
"We plan on launching a stealthy attack on their herb supply to lessen the battles at least for the upcoming leaf-bare so we can recover," finished Sunnystep.
Cherrybee and Sunnystep nodded while Quietfang gave a nervous tail flick. The healer didn't seem too keen on destroying herbs. The group of cats listening to the battle plan eagerly swiped their paws at the air, gave excited ear flicks, and murmured to their friends.
Ferret turned to Daffodil and exclaimed, "I hope I'm on the patrol to attack Glade Colony!! I can't wait to swipe my claws across those mangy fur-balls!"
Aldertwig lashed his tail for silence, "The attack will be tomorrow at sun-fall, when they will have the least cats at camp. There will be two patrols, one will charge in first at keep Glade Colony busy. This patrol will consist of cats skilled at fighting. The second patrol will sneak into the herb storage later. It will consist of cats who excel at stalking."
"Yes. Yes," the empress dismissed, smiling. "Patrol one will have Cherrybee, Minnowbloom, Cloudfrost, and Hopetuft. Patrol two will be Aldertwig, Sunnystep, Goldenbird, and Ferret. I don't want the following cats to be hunting, patrolling, or training tomorrow. Meeting dismissed," she flicked her ears and leapt of the stump.
The ginger trainee bounced up and down, smiling excitedly, "Yes! I just want to sink my teeth into their pelts and and an-"
Minnowbloom rested her tail on the trainee's flank and sighed, "You'll just be destroying the herbs."
"Yes, whatever!"
Picture above is Minnowbloom.
