"So the greedy man's son led a somewhat normal life. The greedy man's son kept meeting the baker's daughter along with a slew of other friends. It was their own little family. Soon the greedy man's son became the leader of this slew of children. The baker's daughter watched from the shadows, envious of the greedy man's son's accomplishments. He got everything so easily but the baker's daughter had to work herself down to the bone for second place.
One day another fire from the gods destroyed the home of the greedy man's son once again. It was different this time, he was different. He didn't remember them. He didn't remember himself. He barely pulled himself out of the rubble alive. So he went on with his life. Soon going on to commit crimes. It started off small, shoplifting a few things and a break in. Soon it turned to massive crimes that rang about the globe. He used bombs and blew things to shreds.
The baker's daughter went on to commit to a life of crime as well, and thus the two became rivals once more, fighting until the very day of their extinction. The end of the curse. That is the story of the Blackheart's and the Mantle's. The curse of karma."
Jade woke up in yet another cold dark and somewhat damp room. He sat up with a satisfying click of his back. Oh yeah, people were dead. He had forgotten about that. That's when all the guilt hit him once again. If only he had paid attention to his surroundings. Goblin and Az wouldn't be dead. If only he hadn't recognized Goblin as a Mantle then they wouldn't have been dead. He breathed a heavy sigh, looking around. Everyone else was asleep and judging by the thrashing the ship was still giving them, the storm was still raging outdoors.
So he waited, cracking open his portion of repulsive canned peaches for the day. Hours passed and still not a single soul woke up. It was hellishly boring, but the peace and quiet gave a moment for thinking about what happened the past few months. It all started with a plan to run away, how did it go so wrong? He thought back and then suddenly it clicked. He didn't know what day it was but he knew that soon Raven would turn eighteen, then Jade would, and after Jade, Ace would. He smiled thinking back of the crazy parties they would have. Once he woke up in a pool with a floatie tied around his neck and thirty soda cans floating around him. No one could recall the day before.
Still not a single soul woke up and the storm was beginning to die out. The rocking slowed and the waves no longer sounded like they were trying to kill the passengers inside. Jade had fallen asleep once more. Little did he know that Ivy was waking up.
Ivy yawned slightly. The storm seemed to have quit completely. He would go out when everyone else woke up. He still worried for what they would do to him when they found out the storm was gone. They needed to steer the ship back onto course as well. Hopefully the storm didn't knock them too far back. He looked around at the strained boards around him. Any more pressure and they would collapse, it was a miracle this ship was still floating considering it was a relic and not anywhere near modern. He noticed at head begin to lift next to him, Ace was awake now. Of course he ran immediately to Jade to wake him up. The only words they shared were a synchronized 'morning'. Jade muttered something under his breath and tried to scoot over but fell off the crate he was sleeping on. Ace started laughing and Ivy had trouble suppressing a childish giggle.
Soon enough everyone was awake and ready. Ivy sighed before he finally spoke, "The storm seems to have died down, anyone wanna risk it on the top deck?" Ivy asked around and everyone shook their heads in turn. It seems no one wanted to risk getting wet. Ivy breathed yet another sigh and stood up. He determinedly went to the hatch and opened it promptly getting drenched. The top deck had a thin layer of water sitting on it. He breathed yet another annoyed sigh and walked up the steps. He stood on the top deck looking around. The place looked like a total mess. There was various sea plants throw on top by the waves and various bins and barrels strewn about the place. Overall it looked like a wreck. Ivy would need help from the others to clean this up in a few days.
Behind him Raven took a curious peak at the top deck. Soon enough everyone was up and looking at the damage. Curse Sailport and its mood swings. Suddenly the boat rocked throwing people around for a moment before it stopped.
"Does anyone know how to steer this ship? I think we're running into rocks," Ace asked and no one made a noise. No one had experience. They were stranded on the ocean in a boat no one knew how to steer. The silence brought forth an eerie anxiety. They could die out here, drowned in the waters just like Rose, Zakk, and Az. It was painfully terrifying, but a moment of terror always brings forth a time to shine and Ivy took it. He was gonna be the savior of these people. These people he barely knew, and his sibling. His older sibling.
Memories flashed before his eyes, of his father and his rough calloused hands gently playing with him while Sunny watched from the corner. Memories of his mother never returning. Memories of just how fucked up they were as kids and how Sunny refused to grow up, Sure it was hard at first with no family at all but Ivy did his darnedest to keep his little remaining family together, Hell he even took care of them through four years of college! After his two best friends disappearance and sudden criminal reappearance it was too rough. He reached a point where he gave up and then he finally landed a good paying job, a doctor for one of the most high security prisons in all of Gyuiph, and then soon he was asked to rejoin his friends well two of them in an odd government hating revenge rebellion, and then he was threatened by his other friend to betray them. So he did just that, and now, despite the odds, he was here. He breathed deeply and rushed to take the wheel before the boat was rocked once more.
"We've drifted into shallow water!" Raven shouted from the side of the ship he would've fallen off if it hadn't been for Ace hoisting him back up along with Jade who was halfway through diving to save him. Ivy focused on steering though he could hear Sunny muttering senselessly next to him. Ivy muttered curses under his breath as he tried his best to steer while failing miserably.
"Ace get everyone to safety while I steer!" Ivy shouted despite his sore lungs from the salty air. He strained his ears until he heard a reply from far behind him. Sunny's senseless muttering never left. Shit.
As soon as he left the wheel, the ancient ship rammed against the rocks, he grabbed Sunny and ducked for safety to no avail. He was thrown sprawling across the ship with ease, using his body to protect Sunny. He didn't get up as the ship rocked once more, sending him flying against some hard surface, he groaned in pain, quickly realizing Sunny was no longer being protected.
"Sunny?!" He shouted in panic before the ship rocked violently with the sounds of splintering wood.
The boat was gonna capsize.
The trio ran out of the hull to the deck as the ship continued on its dangerous path, unbeknownst to Ivy, the ship was ever so slowly sinking as gallons of the abysmal salt water poured into the hull. Looking over the edge, the water was clear for miles, the only disturbance was the boat.
It made no sense.
Ivy clung to a surface as he scanned the ship for Sunny. There! They were sitting in the remains of the barrels they kept up on deck. The ship rocked and a booming crash was audible.
Ivy was flung by gravity once more with a resounding 'shit!'. Jade, Raven and Ace were flung across the ship into random areas. Ivy turned to look only to see the ship was splintering in two and sinking a lot quicker than he had anticipated. Suddenly he was thrown off the ship to crash into the dark and painful waters alongside him, his sibling. He grabbed Sunny by the arm and feverishly paddled to the surface, so gruelingly far.
He broke the surface desperately sucking in air as he pulled Sunny to breathe as well. He coughed and choked and fell lightheaded as he tread water in near the sinking ship. Sunny looked at him, no longer with those diluted silly eyes, a look of apprehension adorned the childish person.
"I'm sorry Ivy, I'm really sorry little bro," Sunny commented and there was painful silence between the two only broken as another crash rang 'round. A crash that sent the ship straight over the two, plowing them over, knocking them unconscious. The last thing Ivy saw was something dark darting out of sight as his vision went dark and he let the last of his breath out.
It was his end. He only hoped, whatever out there, would give him a second chance. He hoped, his wrongdoings didn't define him.
Sunny fought desperately, they realized their mistake, they had to make it right, to raise their brother the way their dad would've wanted. They had to fix this. They fought and fought and fought, to no avail, the choking black depths swallowed their friends and they were gonna swallow Sunny too.
