Freed and Laxus had been sitting on the second floor idly chatting about funds, income and supplies that needed to be replaced so that they could sort of their budget. Freed was drinking tea while the dragon slayer had a beer.

Laxus glanced over the railing with a fond smile, when Freed followed his gaze he saw Evergreen eagerly listening to Elfman as he told the guild how his latest job had went. They were both so happy that she found someone.

Bixlow wasn't too far from them, he was playing pool with Cana and both of from were cheating when the other wasn't looking.

But Laxus' gaze didn't stay on his teammates only, though he knew that Freed soley was. He looked over at the job board where he saw Lucy and Natsu arguing over what job to take in the domestic way they always did. Then he looked over at Levy's table where Gajeel was hovering around.

His eyes snapped back to the table and his companion who sat opposite of him.

"Freed"

Freed turned to look up at the blond and hummed. "What do you think about going on a job? Just the two of us?" He asked.

The rune mage's heart started hammering against his chest. He wanted nothing more than some one on one time with his thunder god but he understood that that wasn't a good idea. Spending so much time with the man he has affection for. He would make a fool of himself, or delusion himself, or potentially leave that mission feeling empty because of how great spending that time would be.

His heart was heavy.

"Take a job without Bixlow or Ever? Just you and me?" He asked. Laxus slowly nodded. "I can't" the green-haired man admitted.

.......

That was the last time Freed saw Laxus healthy. His health started deteriorating right after that day. Porlyusica was working day and night trying to figure out what was wrong with him and the thunder legion had been working the best they could.

Evergreen was going on jobs with Elfman whenever she could so that the team wasn't worrying about financial issues.

Bixlow was the one to bring food and fresh water to Laxus. They had determined that he shouldn't get angry in his current condition and something that had always bothered him was appearing weak. To keep him stable they limited the people allowed to see him to the thunder legion, his grandfather and Porlyusica.

Freed rarely visited. He couldn't take seeing him in such a state. And he couldn't focus on anything else, which was why Ever needed to work so much.

To keep himself sane he had developed a schedule, albeit not a very healthy one. Every morning he would stop by the guild and make some food for Laxus so that the seith mage could bring it up for him. He would stay just long enoygh for Bixlow to come back so that he could ask about the condition of their ailing friend. Then he would leave.

He had a spare key to Laxus' place so he would stop by and clean up so that when the S-class got better his return to normal life wouldn't be so daunting. But he would never once enter the bedroom for privacy's sake.

Then he would go home. He'd have no energy but he would still do his housework for the principle of the matter and then he would flop down on to his sofa and would sleep for a couple hours.

It would be evening when he wakes next. He would stumble into his kitchen. Mira had taken to bringing him meals every now and then because she knew how hard he was working for Laxus. What she didn't know was that he probably wouldn't eat if she hadn't been giving him food.

The Thunder Legion would probably be so upset with him if they knew he was cooking for Laxus when he wasn't even cooking for himself.

But he would take out whatever leftovers he had gotten from Mira and would go over the budget he had made with his Thunder God. It would still be another two weeks before they would be in any trouble and probably longer than that with Ever working.

After he ate he went and had a bath and then he would lay in bed until sleep would come. He would wake up the next day and repeat the cycle.

........

The first time he visited his friend in the infirmary after he had first gotten sick was not something he would ever forget. It was also something that he wished not to remember.

Freed had been out shopping and was in relatively high spirits. Until he was approached by Happy and Natsu. Their expressions had worried him and he was right to react that way as they told him that Laxus had fainted in the guild hall.

He had rushed over as soon as he could. When he got there the blond had woken up, his orange eyes staring directly at the door as Freed walked in.

Laxus was propped up in his hospital bed as he couldn't sit up on his own. His skin had a worringly grey tint and his eyes were unfocused and clouded over. He looked shaky and unsteady.

"What happened?" He asked but it came out whiny.

No one could answer him.

.......

There were tons of theories as to what had happened to Laxus. Though they were all speculation.

Some of the older members of the guild- the ones that could remember the dragon slayer before he was a dragon slayer- thought that perhaps the lacrima hadn't fully overrided his weak constitution and that it had come back to bite him as an adult.

And some of the other dragom slayers worried that it could have been a dragon seed. Porlyusica had assured them that the lacrima in plant protected in the same way their dragons had protected them.

There were guild mates that thought he had been poisoned or curse.

More logical people believed that it was just bad luck random sickness.
