When the night is cold and you feel like no one knows what it's like to be the only one buried in this hole...
The lyrics of Sunrise by Our Last Night blasted from my earbuds as I walked through downtown Essex being pulled by Chelsea, my champagne colored golden retriever. She was eager to reach the park and run free.
I could see the green grass, we were so close then out of no where, WOOF WOOF WOOF, the thunderous barking of another dog coming from behind us. The black lab ran circles around Chelsea and I, wrapping my legs and his owners in the red leash leaving us awkwardly close and tangled. I looked at the stranger only to find it wasn't a stranger at all. I just can't get rid of this boy can I?
"Well hi there Sammie," he smiled and winked at me.
"Hi Charlie," I rolled my eyes at him trying to make it evident that I didn't enjoy talking to him or being in this situation.
"Is someone in a bad mood?" He said in a sing-song tone.
"Now I am," I retorted under my breath.
Once the dogs had untangled themselves I released Chelsea and placed her leash into my bag then walked to the ice cream shop they had in the park and ordered my favorite, a soft serve vanilla and chocolate swirl with rainbow sprinkles.
"You're so boring!" A voice came from behind me.
"Excuse me?" I whipped around.
"You heard me, I said you were boring"
It was Charlie again, he just wouldn't leave me alone so I ignored him and grabbed my ice cream eager to leave the stand to avoid conversation with him as much as possible.
"I know you heard me"
I looked over his way, "hmm?"
He smiled, what was he smiling about? Nothing in this situation could be something to smile about.
"Are you going to the party this weekend?"
I had been invited to Kevin Fassino's party but that was only because I'm best friends with his girlfriend, Sage, I was definitely second guessing about attending the party now that I knew Charlie would be going.
"I might," I responded, and with that I pulled out my phone and scrolled through the contacts while walking away from Charlie.
I clicked the one I was looking for and put the phone to my ear.
"Hey honey what's up?" Sage's soothing voice filled my ear.
"Hey Sagie," I blankly stated.
"What's wrong?"
"I don't want to go to the party."
"Why not?? You promised me you would!"
"I know but--"
"Pleeeeaasseee!"
"Okay I guess"
"Thank you! I love you!"
"I love you too, I guess"
"Why didn't you want to go?"
"There's this boy going that I don't like"
"Ohh, I see"
"Yeah"
"Well I'll be with you the entire time, I promise."
"Cross your heart?"
"Hope to die."
And with that we both hung up, my fate decided. I was going to the party and Charlie wasn't going to ruin it for me.
