Charlie's frat house sits on top of a hill of emerald grass. Sprinklers are scattered throughout the large lawn, sending crystal droplets sailing to the ground like miniature parachutists. The white house gleams in the sunlight, temporarily blinding me. We park and I step out of Charlie's royal blue '67 impala, following the boys to the house. I step inside and close the crimson door behind me.
.................
"Ouch, watch it!" Cooper swatted away my hand as I tried to clean off dried blood on his chin where Kaden hit him badly.
"Well if you held still maybe it wouldn't hurt as much," I snapped.
"Okay mom," Cooper emphasized the word mom to annoy me and I knew it so I ignored him, continuing to clean the cut.
In the other room I hear Charlie and another boy arguing, I don't mean to eavesdrop but it's hard not to, they're yelling.
"I don't care if you want to say sorry for gods sake stay the hell away from her!" Charlie yelled.
"I just want to fucking apologize relax and get the hell away from me so I can say sorry," the other boy yelled back.
"No! Now stay away and I mean it," Charlie warned.
I walk into the room where the argument is radiating from.
I start to say, "if you're going to argue you might as wel--"
I'm stopped dead in the middle of my sentence when I see who it is Charlie is arguing with. Ryan. I immediately leave the house and sit in Charlie's car.
I open my phone and scroll to Charlie's contact to call him.
"Drive me home now."
"Sammie, listen--"
"No! I'm not listening I want to get away from here."
"Okay, I'll drive you home but we are going to talk at your place."
And with that he hung up before I could respond.
Five minutes later he emerged from the house. I watched him walk over to the car and he seems to be completely in time with the song I'm listening to, Sugar by Maroon 5.
.................
"Why are you even mad at me?"
"You should know why!"
"I was telling him to get away from you so no I don't know why!"
"Well you should! You brought me there in the first place without warning me!"
"Well I'm sorry."
"I'm sure you are."
"C'mon Sammie"
I storm upstairs, slam my door and lock it.
I dial a number on my phone and hold it up to my ear.
"YOU. NEED. TO. CONTROL. YOUR. BOYFRIEND. EVEN WHEN HE'S DRUNK AND TRIPPING ON MORE STUFF THAN I CAN NAME." I yell into the phone.
There's a pause.
"Who? Ryan?" Lucy said through the phone.
"Yes. That would be the one."
"What did he do."
I told her what happened and she told me she had to go deal with him then hung up.
I hoped I didn't ruin their relationship but frankly, he deserved it.
I was ignoring the pounding on my door but when it abruptly ended I got up off of my bed.
A soft knock followed by one of my sisters voices came through my door.
"Sam, why's this guy pounding on your door??" Grace asked.
"I don't want to talk to him."
"Why not?," she asked and then she whispered, "He's kind of cute..."
"I just don't!" I said ignoring her comment about Charlie's looks.
"Well be sure to lock the bathroom that connects to Sage's room."
Shit. I forgot about that. I turned around and before I could even start running to lock the door, Charlie had already made it into my room.
"Get away," I said.
"Not until you forgive me, I thought he had a class today, I'm sorry."
I folded my arms and stayed where I was, which was far enough away from him. Charlie came over and hugged me. I tried to push away but he's a lot stronger than I am so it didn't do much.
"I'm not letting go until you forgive me."
"Well you're going to be holding me for a while then."
"I have all day today and tomorrow."
I sighed.
"Okay fine. I forgive you, now let go!"
He laughed.
"I knew that would work," he smirked.
Just as he finished his sentence I heard another knock at my door. I walked over and unlocked it.
"I'm sorry I ended it between us babe, I flew over once I realized how stupid I had been."
It was Jake.
"Babe who's that.." Jake looked past me into my room and saw Charlie standing there awkwardly. Before I could respond, he angrily asked,
"Did you just fuck him?! One day after we broke up and you're fucking other guys?!"
"What if I did?!" I yelled back to him, "you can't control me! I'm not your property anymore! If I did fuck him it's not your business! Get out of my house!"
Jake whipped around and I slammed the door. Charlie had a smirk on his face that told me whatever he was about to say was incredibly sexual.
"So you would fuck me?"
Yep. I knew it. Like I said, incredibly sexual.
