Chapter Twenty Three

"Where do you go to school?" Niall asked Grover as everyone sat down for dinner.

"NYU."

"I love New York." Spencer watched as Niall typed something on his phone. She had been surprised when the two boys connected, seemingly like close friends.

"I've got a surprise." Grover said. The whole family looked at him expectantly. He took a deep breath before continuing. "Lydia's coming to visit."

"The girlfriend?" Spencer gasped, a smile appearing on her lips.

"Yeah. She's coming in a couple days." He nodded before taking a sip of his water.

"I can't wait to meet her!" Stephanie smiled, and started clearing plates.

"Here, let me help you." Niall said, getting up and starting the dishes.

"Oh! Thank you, Niall." She gushed.

"Let's go watch a movie." Max said, and ran downstairs to the living room. Spencer joined Niall in cleaning, and once done headed downstairs. They sat on the floor, Spencer between Niall's legs.

"I need to get some work done before bed." Her dad announced prior to trotting upstairs.

"I'm tired. I'll see you kids in the morning." Stephanie yawned and headed off to bed.

"I'm-uh-I-I'm-uh-just-gonna-go." Max stuttered nervously, clearly scared by Silence of the Lambs.

"I'm not going anywhere." Grover laughed as he spread his legs out on the couch.

"Well can we at least change the movie?" Spencer asked, playing with Niall's fingers.

"Nope!" He laughed again.

"Buttface." Spencer mumbled.

"Glad to know my girlfriend's mature." Niall giggled, kissing her neck.

"I'm just scared!" She pouted her lip.

"Don't worry, I'll protect you." He promised, wrapping his arms around her, hugging her to him.

The movie ended, and the couple maneuvered back to bed. They collapsed in a heap of legs, Niall falling asleep quickly. He snored softly as Spencer strokes his chest.

"Pence." He mumbled.

"Hmm?" She lifted her head from the pillow, but Niall was still asleep. She kept watching him, before realizing she had to pee.

Upon returning from the bathroom she found him sitting up, awake.

"Where'd you go?" He asked quietly.

"Bathroom." She chuckled as he welcomed her back into the warm bed.

"Hey, I had an idea."

"Yeah?"

"Well I was thinking, and since you're still in school, maybe, if you were okay with it-"

"Just say it." She said, stroking his cheek.

"I could get an apartment here. A-and live here." He added to the end. The smile radiated of Spencer's face.

"Really!" She squealed, not really as a question.

"Of course! I'm so done with this long distance bullshit." He laughed and rolled on top of her.

"I know how you feel." She giggled and tugged him down to kiss him. When they released she had a question. He rolled next to her, so they were facing each other. "What are we gonna do this summer?"

"A lot of what we just did." He laughed, and she nuzzled her head into his chest. She stroked his hand, listening to the beat of his heart speed up under her gentle touch.

"Hey Niall." She whispered.

"Yeah Pence."

"Thank you for making this work." She smiled as he kissed the top of her head.

"I'd do anything for you."

"The feeling's mutual." She sighed happily as he tightened his grip on her.

The next morning...

"I'm so annoyed I have to go to school." She griped as Niall tied his shoe, sitting on the edge of the bathtub. She was brushing through her blow dried, blonde hair.

"Don't worry love. It won't be too long." He chuckled, reaching out and snacking her bum.

"Niall!" She shrieked. "What am I gonna do with my hair?" She asked, splitting the locks around her shoulders.

"I have the perfect solution!" He said and walked back to the bedroom. She hadn't expected a legitimate answer, so she followed him. "Close your eyes." She happily obeyed. He slipped a snapback on her head, and then ducked down to kiss her. When they parted she admired the hat in the mirror.

"Mmm, you're right, it is the perfect accessory." She giggled, taking his hand and leading him to the kitchen. They ate cereal quickly. "Are you sure you're alright to hang out with Grover all day?"

"Definitely! We're gonna be bros." He laughed heartily.

"I'm glad." She leaned across the table and kissed him slowly. After a long while Max walked in and cleared his throat.

"Dude! Gross!" He covered his eyes dramatically. "Grover is gonna take us to school and them go hang out with Niall."

"Okey-dokey." They both responded, and followed Max to the car.

When they arrived outside of the high school, Niall got out of the car and walked Spencer to her locker.

"I'll miss you today, Pence. I can't wait to see you tonight." He breathed into her neck.

"Me too." She held his face with her fingers and kissed him quickly. "Have fun with Grover today, babe."

"Not as much fun as I'm gonna have with you tonight." He playfully grabbed her bum. She turned bright red, pulling the hat further down on her head.

"Sounds pretty good to me." She whispered, placing a cheek on his lips.

"Okay, I'll see you tonight then." He kissed her one last time and returned to Grover.
