"Get out my damn house!"

Duka looked up from the creamy mix in the bowl and shook his head. It was too early for shouting. He heard a man cussing as he stormed down the hall. The front door opened and slammed. He shook his head again and continued pouring the mix.

A shirtless Coren entered the kitchen and opened the refrigerator. Reaching in, he took out a gallon of juice. He chuckled and muttered, "And anotha one." He tilted his head back and drank from the jug.

Duka slapped a cup on the counter beside him. "Use a cup." He removed the finished waffles from the waffle iron and put them on the plate before he poured more batter. He walked to the fridge and pushed his brother out of the way so he could open it. He sighed reaching into the nearly empty fridge to grab the small chunk of butter.

"So mean," Coren chuckled.

"Whatever, nasty." Duka looked down as a little hand tugged on his basketball shorts.

Shiny hazel eyes looked up at him. "Duka, I hungee."

"I know. Just wait. I'm almost finished."

"'Kay!"

Duka snorted as his three-year-old sister scampered onto a chair. Not only had his mother been in and out of rehab trying to get her life together, she also found religion and two more kids. She was still shit at relationships which lead to boyfriend number eight since his arrival, storming out in a huff early in the morning. Sex didn't equal love and men will say whatever to get it. She still hadn't learned that lesson nor how to use birth control.

Anatalie rolled her eyes. "When will she ever learn?"

Coren snorted as he pulled his sweater over his head. "Never. You'd think she learn by now. How many kids she got now? What's not clickin'?"

Thirteen-year-old Anatalie smacked the back of Coren's head. "You're one to talk. You only fifteen. How many bodies you got?"

Duka chuckled and dished out waffles to the impatient little ones.

"Surprised you ain't got a few kids of your own," she added. She thanked Duka for her plate and poured syrup for the two small kids.

Coren sucked his teeth and wrinkled his nose in disgust. "Hell naw. Ain't nobody tryin' to be Aniya Jr. up in this bitch."

Dazzia walked in with her eyes on her phone. "Language."

"Watch your mouth," Duka chided.

"Oooh you said a bad word."

Coren threw his hands up. "Mannnn, shuddup!"

Dazzia put her phone away and started cutting the waffles for the little ones.

School days were typically like this. One of the older kids cooked and the others helped the little ones. Duka turned the waffle-maker off and put the dirty dishes in the sink. "Ya'll settle down. Eat so we can all go to school."

"Lookit you. Big Daddy Duka," Coren joked.

Duka rolled his eyes.

"Makin' sure all us chilren is fed and dressed to get our learn on."

"Remember," Duka put waffles in his mouth and smiled. "If it wasn't for me yo bitch ass would starve."

The older kids burst into laughter.

Anatalie took another dig at her brother. "You'll be in school for life if you don't get your grades up."

Coren rolled his eyes. "School ain't everything."
