Chapter 1: It Comes And Goes In Waves, And Carries Us Away

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

“There is a swelling storm,
And Iʼm caught up in the middle of it all.
And it takes control,
Of the person that I thought I was,
The boy I used to know.”

Nakahara Chuuya didnʼt always feel like this.

When he was with The Sheep, they didnʼt have the luxury of eating decent meals everyday. Since they were all kids thrust into a life of crime and bloodshed, Chuuya took it upon himself to take care of those under his care. It was no secret he wore his heart on his sleeve, but that did not mean he wasnʼt aware of his kindness being taken advantage of.

But when his worth was defined by that very kindness, he couldn't help but let himself be taken advantage of.

Hence, why whenever they stole from others to get by, it was a guarantee they didnʼt always manage to steal enough for everyone. The members of The Sheep would always ask him on what to do. Since he was the leader, he gave away his portion of the food to be split amongst the youngsters to build up their strength, because after all, they needed it more than he ever did.

He had a God inside him, and was naturally physically strong. He could easily survive without a meal or two. Besides, it wasnʼt even that often, the worst week consisting of this routine was when they couldnʼt steal properly for six days straight. But he had gotten over that, he had been fine with drinking only water and eating the few leftovers, if there were any.

He was perfectly fine.

It wasnʼt a surprise this habit of his to make sure his subordinates were well taken care followed him to the Port Mafia. And with it, his habit of neglecting his health for others. He was just taking care of others, people he worked with, people who definitely needed it more than him. It wasnʼt like it was affecting his work. As long as this little problem of his was kept out of his work, it wasnʼt that bad.
