CHAPTER 2: The Moment We Clashed
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Dazai couldnʼt think straight.
There was so much blood. It was all over his hands, his shirt and even his coat. The blood covered some parts of his neck and his bandages were soaked in it. Normally, the sight of blood didnʼt effect Dazai at all, though normally the blood would be his. This time was different, but God, was it different. Dazai had seen Chuuya after using Corruption, but there had never been this much blood. Dazai feared what might happen if Chuuya didnʼt make it.
He had to make it. He had to stay alive.
If he didnʼt... Well, Dazai wouldnʼt be blamed for what he would end up doing. Some pieces were starting to click in his head as he watched Yosano work from the corner of the room. Chuuya wouldnʼt have activated Corruption if he knew there was another way, especially not if Dazai wasnʼt there. They had promised each other to never resort to Corruption if Dazai wasnʼt there and only do it if there was no other choice. Why had Chuuya done it?
Being this suicidal was Dazaiʼs job. Not Chuuyaʼs.
Then why...?
Catching a glimpse of Akutagawa from the corner of his eye, Dazai blanked. Stepping towards the younger man, Dazai grabbed hold of his collar. Akutagawa merely blinked, as if expecting this. Atsushi gasped, grabbing his wrist to stop him. Kunikida called out his name, but he couldn't care less about what they did. He needed answers, and he needed them now.
“Why did he do it?”
Akutagawa sighed heavily, red-rimmed eyes gazing up at the darkened ones, “I didnʼt understand it before. I thought it was merely something he said whenever he sent Chuuya-san on a mission–”
Dazai aggressively jolted Akutagawa, “Who?”
Akutagawa remained silent for a second too late. Even though Dazai had an inkling of what the answer could be, he still whispered in a threatening tone, “Who, Akutagawa?”
Flinching at the tone, despite having heard it multiple times, Akutagawa lowered his gaze, “Mori.”
Dazai released Akutagawaʼs collar, stepping back as a dawning expression overtook his features, “He sent him on a suicide mission, knowing Chuuya would follow his orders.” Akutagawa nodded at his words, confirming what he had already pieced together. Mori needed Chuuya out of the way, since the use of Corruption had been limited and he couldnʼt use that card anymore. Mori had dared hurt Chuuya. Dazaiʼs eyes almost glowed with his anger, causing everyone to shudder at the look in his face.
