Chapter 2-Aptitude Test

I wake up startled by the immense amount of sunlight streaming through my window. I groggily rubbed my eyes and stretched. I am officially 16 today,aptitude test day. I wasn't nervous yesterday,in fact,confident. But now that the day is here, I start to become anxious. Although Dauntless is what I intend to be, I can't help wondering about what my results will be. If I get amity,then what am I,a ditzy airhead? If I get Erudite, then I'll be required to wear glasses to appear smarter. Candor? No way I'm spilling my secrets to a bunch of random people! I step out of my bed and start to get dressed for breakfast,bread I'm guessing,of course. I pull a light red dress over my head and it reaches below my knees. I shrug over a loose yellow cardigan and then brush my hair until it looked presentable. Then I ran out the door.
By the time I arrive to the tables where my family and I usually sit, the place is packed. Women fetching water and pulling the weeds,men doing the same,and the little kids screaming in delight while playing tag with each other. I approach the table bare handed,I'm not particularly hungry this morning. "Hello Lillian how'd you sleep"? My mother chirpily asked. "Good", I lied to her. To be real I had trouble last night trying to fall asleep,tossing and turning. "So today's the big day,huh Lillian! You'll do just fine and whatever result you receive,I'll still love you the same. And if your worried don't be, you'll do just fine. Just go with happiness Lillian." "Were you nervous for your test mom?" "I wasn't scared, I was terrified,I know it's intimidating but you'll do just fine". "Thanks mom...for the advice".

"Lillian Claire Adair?" The woman called out. She had long midnight black hair and a hawk tattoo on the back of her neck. She had on a black tank,black pants,and black combat boots,obviously Dauntless. I rise from my seat slowly. With my heart pounding and hands clammy and cold I approached the room. I sat down onto the beige chair leaning back. "Here drink this",the woman,Tori,says to me. "What is it",I ask cautiously. "Once you drink it it'll go into effect 1 minute later and it'll induce a simulation allowing us to classify you. For confidential reasons I can't tell you what's in the sim." I inspect the drink. It seems just like water. Thin and Clear. I rise the cup to my lips and swallow.

I turn my head.The woman Tori was now completely gone,including everything else in the room that was just there 1 minute ago. I look around in a daze and confusion when all of a sudden I heard a voice which I thought was mine."Choose",it said quietly but with a slight menace. I looks at the cheese,knife,and a book.I hesitate. "Why?" "Just choose",it says now with irritation and edge. "JUST TELL ME WHY"! I yell at my "twin". A snarl came from behind me, I turned back to her and she was gone,including all my could-be weapons. The snarl came from an intimidating large dog baring its' vampire like teeth. It advances towards me... I run. I run as fast as I can until I realize the dog will never stop. Slowly I drop to my knees,showing that I have surrendered and I'm of no danger, I shut my eyes. When I reopen them it was now like a demon transformed into an angel. It now was a smaller version of the dog but it's eyes hold nothing but innocence and kindness. When I reach out to pet its soft velvet fur,I heard another voice. It can't be another me can it? It wasn't. "Puppy!" The little girl cooed. I look up and the last thing I see is it running towards her and then me following in its footsteps then,blackness.

I would've never thought that a plain room and a lady that was basically a stranger would look and feel so comforting to me. All of that goes away as soon as I see the look on Tori's face. Her face anxious and her eyes clouded with worry. "You have to go now,lie to your parents that you had to go home early. "Wait, what were my results"? My voice said unsteadily.
