[ I did something bad. ]
. . .
The name chanted in her mind.
Rowan Elydeen, Rowan Elydeen.
Rowan, Elydeen. . .
ROWAN EDYLEEN.
"Who was he, Professor?"
Dumbledore gave her a calm, yet remorseful look. "He was a student here at Hogwarts not too long ago. The generation before yourselves infact."
"As in when the Marauders --- I mean, when James, Sirius and Remus were in school?"
The old wizard gave her a knowing look as she corrected herself. "Quite right, Ms. Lestrange. Although he did not go by his real name. He went by Atticus Grey."
"Professor, why not his real name?"
"What I have failed to tell you, Adara, is that after the Elydeens' downfall, all of their history went with them. Presumably burnt to ashes. But they were --- nonetheless --- erased from the past. I suspect by the Ministry. Fudge has never excelled in handling overwhelming affairs and tends to act irrationally when faced with these ordeals."
"Atticus Grey, or as we now know as Rowan Edyleen, was seen as an orphaned child and treated as such --- "
Like me. . . Adara found herself thinking childishly.
" --- despite the fact he was the last remaining heir of Elydeen. There were no records of him. And he was given a new name by the Ministry. Once he showed his wizarding abilities, the Ministry labelled him a pureblood, as they had no biological evidence to say otherwise. He was a talented boy in school, a cunning, charismatic Slytherin who loved a challenge. He was a great wizard, as I now know was down to his descent. He could make things fly on command, without a wand or a whisper. Much like --- yourself. "
Adara's heart was on the verge of sinking, but she held onto it tight. She attempted to brush aside what she knew Dumbledore was implying.
Dumbledore paused, briefly tangling his hands in his beard. "He and. . . your mother were close."
Her heart fell fifty feet.
"I do not believe he shared her pureblooded beliefs. But he did --- he did care for her --- I noticed. Until her arranged marriage to Rudolphus Lestrange, I believe your mother and Rowan were together, even after their Hogwarts years."
"No --- " She shook her head, her vision blurry.
"Ms. Lestrange, I know this is difficult news to process, but I must continue."
She bit her lip, trying to stop her eyes from watering. She didn't know why she felt like crying but refused to do so infront of Dumbledore. "Professor, what are you saying?"
