Her mind was blank, and almost as empty as the room she found herself in. Then, her thoughts were flooded with visions of you. Ei never wanted to lose you or let go, and here she was blaming herself for not being able to protect you. Were you ever going to come back into her life? No, it was so unlikely. But your absence had left an impact on her, she felt as though she lost a part of herself. Your lack of presence was something she got used to over time.

Ei was meditating on the floor, her brows visibly furrowing and finding it hard to focus. There was just a mere presence lingering near by, but Ei felt as though she had previously familiarised herself with it in the past. There was a chance it may have been Yae coming to stop by.

Ei's suspicions were confirmed by the voice of the kitsune lady, already inside the Shogunate's quarters and waited to speak up.

"I have some news for you, Ei. Someone special is here to see you."

"Who is it?"

"Someone you're very friendly and familiar with. I wouldn't keep her waiting, after all," Yae's footsteps started to come closer, stopping at the top of the steps. "You haven't see her in a very, very long time." 

"It couldn't be." Ei snapped in realisation, it's when she instantly thought of you. Ei kept her composure and rose to her feet, proceeding to the doors and shakily inhaled.

Yae soon enough noticed her tense self and laughed a bit. "I'm sure you are as eager and nervous as she is to see you."

Yae watched her disappear, hastily running down the steps. A figure was approaching, a certain someone she knew all too well. She had never ran so fast in her life, uttering sighs of relief in between short breaths as Ei allowed you to throw yourself into her embrace. It's when Ei realised she missed you more, she missed your touch, your smiles when she'd tell you something amusing.

The clasp around you became tighter, you couldn't see her face, but you knew she was beyond ecstatic. Ei pulled away, analysing your features and seeing that you changed. She didn't mind it, she caressed your cheek with her thumb, bringing your forehead to her lips.

"Where have you been all these years?" Ei murmured against your skin. "I have been rather lonely."

"I'm so sorry, Ei. I'm here to stay, forever." Your words brought a rare smile to her lips, the feeling of happiness was something she hardly experienced after your disappearance. You were her eternity, her light, a special something she needed to treasure. Ei didn't say anything after that, but you could tell she was extremely grateful for your return, only holding you in a comforting hold.

"I love you, Ei."
