Chapter 14

We drive through Charleston. "I wonder where john B and sarah are right now."JJ said. Kie took up most of the room so i had to sit on JJ's lap.

 Im not complaing. "They're bunch of fancy people they're had three governors in the family. They've run Charleston for like 300 years."Kie said as we pulled up to the house.

"these kooks make out kooks like pouges."JJ said as we stopped. "You sure this is the place dude."I said looked at the 4 story house."I ask. 

"Pretty sure."Pope said getting out. "all right."I said getting off JJ's lap. "Fat city. for sure."JJ said. "Twenty-seven King street."Pope said.

I walked up to the gate with Kie and JJ. There were spikes on the top. "Talk about home security."JJ said.

"Those spikes to keep people out."JJ asked. "No."Kie said. "Slave quarters are over there."Pope said looking to the left"The spikes were to keep people in babes."I said.

We walked up to the door, The door handle had a lions head on it with a ring hanging from its mouth. 

Pope grabbed the handle and banged it on the door. "You that was to much."Pope asked."It echoed the entire house. that's for sure."JJ said. 

"They definitely heard it."I said. "Maybe nobodys home."Kie said. Pope banged on the door again, The door opened up and a man appeared.

 He looked at all of us and licked his lips. "You must be pope."The man said pointing at the boy next to me. Pope looked at us. 

"Are you Mr.Limbrey."Pope asked. "Ms. Limbrey was ecpecting you yesterday."The man said. "I'm sorry. My car broke down on the way up here."Pope said. 

"Carburetor blew up in the middle of Nowheresville. Sorry bout that."JJ said. The man looked at JJ then me. 

"Yeah she was real upset when you didn't show up."The man said. "We tried to call but there was no number on the invitation."Kie said looking at the letter.

"We got here as fast as we could."I said. "She also expected you to come alone."The man said looking at pope dead in the eyes like he was looking at his soul. 

"I mean. These are my friends. They helped me find the Royal Merchant too. I-"Pope got cut off by the man.

 "The  Instructions were explicit. Your friends can stay outside."The man said. "We're kind of a package deal man."JJ said.

 "I'm not gonna let him-"Pope cut me off. "JJ, Valerie. I got this. I'll be good."Pope said. "yeah. We'll Be right here."Kie said. 

"Keep the car running."Pope said. "yep."Kie said. Pope let go of kie's hand. When did they hold hands. Pope and the man walked inside and the man shut the door.

 "Is it just me or does that man seem creepy."I said looking around. "Yeah."JJ said.

JJ,Kie and I sat in the car waiting. "If Limbrey Legit. then ward gets arrested and maybe sarah gets the gold."Kie said. 

A woman, The man that met us at the door and pope walked out of the house. The man had his hand on pope's shoulder.

 Pope looked back at us then kept walking. "Does that look voluntary."Kie asks. "that would be a negative."JJ said. 

"come on"Kie said opening the door. "Wait. Hold on."I said watching the people walk into the alley. "Their going to the alley."I said.
