"tear me to pieces
skin and bones"
———————————Chapter Two: Civilian
I STARED IN complete horror—as did everyone else—at the severed leg on the ground. It was silent, other than the fact walkers were still banging on the door that was now secured with a wooden board. Daryl, the archer, had came and kneeled down beside us all, inspecting the scene. He took a glance up, and the same look he gave me, was the same one he gave to the wall.
"Duck." He warned softly.
I did as told, so did Rick, and Daryl aimed his crossbow as he stood. I didn't dare look behind us, I was too focused on the blood seeping through the cloth Maggie had found on the ground. Glenn—the Korean boy—stood and rolled over a food cart. He swiped away everything atop of it, and kneeled down again.
"On three, okay?" Rick spoke loudly. We needed to pick Hershel up.
What are you doing?
You could run away now, leave these people behind. You don't even know if they'd allow you to be in their group.Although my intrusive thoughts were tempting, I ignored them. I carefully slid my hands under Hershel's torso.
"One.."
"Two.."
"Three!"We all grunted, hoisting the man onto the food cart tray. I grabbed the cloth from before and pressed it tightly to poor Hershel's bleeding leg. Well, what was left of it. I nodded at Rick, who yelled for Daryl. I stood on the side of the cart, applying hard pressure and moving when Rick began to push the cart. I felt my heartbeat almost out of my chest. Walkers were swarming the halls.
"Walkers!" I yelled over the commotion, "Daryl!" Rick yelled, and the walker that was in front of me dropped quickly with an arrow to its head.
That could be you if they blame you for the old guy dying.
My stomach twisted. "Go back, go back!" Rick hissed at me, panic in his voice as we pushed the cart another direction. We raced through an open cell door, light illuminating the entire area. It looked like a cell block.
"He's losing too much blood!" Maggie cried. My heart wrenched for her. I couldn't imagine how much pain she was feeling.
"Open up!!" Rick yelled, "its Hershel!!"
There's more of them.
"Carl!"
"Oh my god!" Another woman, with short grey hair yelled in shock.
"Daddy?!" A blonde girl shouted in horror.
