The soles of your shoes tap against the sidewalk as you hurriedly make your way to the nearest grocery store. It was odd that you were out of eggs, simply because you had just ordered some in bulk last week. You just assumed that you had mindlessly used them while making that peculiar order that came in three days ago. You turn the corner and head into the store, quickly purchasing five cartons of 32 and leaving.
As the time ticked by, it seemed to pass agonizingly slow. That all changed when three men walked into your store. You hadn't heard them come in, since you were prepping your next order in the back. Around this time of day, no one came in so you used this time to sing to yourself to make time pass faster. The sound of your voice echoed into the dining area, catching the attention of the three men.
"Miss?" A voice called. You stumbled at the sudden voice, dropping the dishes you were carrying, your face flushing at your clumsiness. You quickly pick the dishes up and place them in the sink, rushing to the front. You quickly bow, apologizing for keeping them waiting.
As you stand up straight, you notice that they were all men. The first man was tall and blond, a small smile gracing his features- he seemed very polite. The second was tall and blond as well, but he wore a scowl. The last man was rather short, wearing a bandanna that covered most of his face. You could tell by the way his eyes looked that he was smirking.
"G-Gomen!" Your face flushes further. The two that you had a clear view of were very attractive. As for the short one, you could feel the confidence oozing from him. "C-can I get you anything?"
You quickly place on gloves as the short man and the man who wore a scowl glance at each other. The kindest-looking of the three speaks up first.
"We've never been here, miss. What would you recommend?"
You clasp your hands together, discreetly wringing your fingers.
"Many of my customers enjoy the raspberry cheesecake, the carrot cake, and the chocolate chip cookies. As for drinks, the one that sells the most is the green tea. However, the one that receives the most compliments is the peppermint tea." You feel their gazes on your small figure.
"Well, pretty lady. I'll take the peppermint tea and the carrot cake." The one who was scowling was now smirking at his successful attempt to fluster you. You immediately nod, writing down his order on a slip of paper as you attempt to suppress the blush that dusted your cheeks.
The man wearing a bandanna pulls it down, revealing a beautifully crafted face. He speaks softly. "I'll have the peppermint tea as well."
"And for you, sir?" You turn to the man whose gaze never left you.
"I'll have the raspberry cheesecake and the green tea." You finish writing down their orders and place it on the counter behind you.
"Will that be together or separate?" You ask.
"Together."
"Your order comes to three thousand jenny." The man named Shalnark hands you the money, his calloused hand grazing your scarred fingers.
"Miss, how did your fingers become so scarred?" He questions.
"I'm very clumsy, so I often cut my fingers or spill boiling water."
"Doesn't that hurt?" The short man inquires; it was sweet of him to be concerned.
"Not as bad as it would be for most people. Over the years, I've become more tolerant to pain than most." You smile softly at him. "I'll start on your orders right away. Feel free to sit anywhere in the dining area."
The three men take a seat at the furthest table as you fill the tea kettle with water and place it on the heat. Grabbing three tea steepers and the tea blends, you make your way over to the mug cabinet. You stand on the tips of your toes and grab three mugs, placing each on the countertop. Filling the tea steeper with the selected tea blend, you place that in the mug. With every move you make, you feel the three men's eyes on your figure.
