A/N: the request is by Macaroni who wants a one-shot of blind Dolores

Translation;

espeluznante chica murciélago——creepy bat girl

Trigger warning: minor bullying, minor ableism, minor Infantilization.

While this chapter is MUCH light-heart than the other chapters it does feature the following trigger warnings, albeit small things. It's a sad but happy fic.

————————————————————

When Dolores was born, she was born blind. Dolores remember that even at a small age she couldn't see, her world was pitch black. But she could hear and smell and taste and feel so that was find. She can't miss something she never had. Still, she could hear the sadness in her parents voices when they talk about her.

Even after her gift ceremony she was still blind. Neither her Tia Julieta's food or the Miracle itself could get rid of her disability. That's not how things work, but it did get her a advantage of sorts.

Enchanted hearing. More specifically, echolocation. The ability to locate objects by reflected sound, that is used by animals such as dolphins and bats.

Lots of kids tease her by calling her espeluznante chica murciélago. Every time Dolores heard the kids call her that she cried. She wasn't creepy, wasn't a freak.

But the bullying still happen. Tripping, shoving, loud yelling or sometimes yelling directly into her ear. The kids cry and screech when they saw her ear bleed. They call her a demon after that. More than once she cry into her parents arms, listening to the rain that her Mami made or the sound of her father's deep breathing.

Dolores loves sounds. Sure with her gift it was hard to tune everything out, but that make her seem to love her other sense. Smelling, hearing, tasting, feeling. She didn't need to see to express herself or explore the world.

She apparently has something called synaesthesia. It's a condition where two of her sense seem to connect to one another. When she hears something or a certain voice, like her brother, she smells certain scents. Her brother smells like smoke. Or when she hears music they have different taste. A base clef taste spicy while an half note taste like ice.

This is what she come up for the family base on what they sound like and what singing voice they have.

Abuela—-smells like ash and taste like mix berries

Tia Julieta—-smells like mint and taste like sugar

Mama—-smells like rain and taste like lemons

Tio Bruno—smells like coffee and taste like dark chocolate

Tio Agustin—smells like pine and taste like coffee

Papa—-smells like oranges and taste like cinnamon

Isabela—smells like flowers and taste like citrus and tea

Luisa—smells like cut grass and taste like peaches and honey

Camilo——smells like smoke taste like cherries

Mirabel—smells like the sea and taste like cream

As for herself she smells like vanilla and taste like cherries and honey.

Touch also felt different to her, it had a temperature. Hitting, shoving, pulling on her hair that all felt red burning hot. Hugs, pats on the head, kisses, that all felt soft autumn cold. Holding hands and dancing felt like a sling warmth.

She try to explain all of these to her family, but they ask questions and seem confused.

Another thing she didn't like is that her family treats her like a child. One that is helpless and lost. The family is always pull or leading her somewhat, always grabbing her hand and pulling her along. They always follow her into town and have her shadow or follow her Tia, in case she gets hurt.

She loves her family, she does. But it....When they do this stuff without her knowing or without telling her, it hurts. It seem like people forget she could hear and speak, they just ramble to her or about her to others. Dolores hope with the new baby that her Mami is having then there will be someone in this house that won't treat her as fragile.

That's why she like Mariano so much. That boy she has a crush on. He just sees her. When she's in town she can her him call out to her, telling her hi. Mariano's voice sounds like a low rumble, like a river, he smells like sea. When he sings he taste like basil. He never seem to interact with her that much, always busy taking care of his mama and Abuela. He's gently and can sing, make beautiful poetry, he's good with kids, and the most important thing to her, is that he treats her like a person. Like a normal human. He doesn't pick on her, doesn't ask inappropriate questions, doesn't treat her like a child or helpless, doesn't think she's creepy or weird. He's just neutral.

She really like that. Likes that he can hear her and that she can metaphorical see him.

Dolores can't see, but that's ok, she didn't need to.
