Chapter 7

Nawala na ang phantom at muli kong nasilayan ang council room. Dama ko pa rin ang bilis ng pagtibok ng aking puso at ang bahagyang panginginig ng aking mga kamay.

My eyes blink countless times before I could clearly see the person in front of me. It was Zack and he had this blank look on his face.

"Too weak," he uttered. Namula ang mukha ko sa hiya at nangitngit ako sa galit. Pakiramdam ko ay pinaglalaruan ako sa mga oras na ito at hindi ko iyon gusto.

"Zack hindi mo dapat siya binigla!" pagsusuway ni Jin sa kaibigan. Halata sa tono nito ang pagkainis pero balewala lang kay Zack iyon na ngayon ay nasa akin nakatutok ang atensyon. Walang bahid ng pagsisi ang kanyang mukha.

"It's a necessary step for her to be part of the student council, but she failed."

Mas lalong bumaon ang kuko ko sa

"Bago palang si Helena. You shouldn't put too expectations on her from the start. Matututunan niya rin ang lahat ng paunti-unti. We just have to guide and teach her," depensa pa rin sakin ni Jin. I didn't know why he was persistent on defending me right now, we aren't even that close.

I wasn't feeling grateful at all. Rather, I wanted to defend myself from these two men who kept arguing about me as if I was invisible in front of them. It felt wrong to keep my silence when I was clearly being belittled.

"You're right, I expected too much since she's from a Lavigne," Zack seriously said. Tila nangungutya ang tono niya kahit 'di naman and I can't help but feel irritated.

"Who are you to judge me like that?" Hindi na ako nakapagpigil at sumabat na sa kanilang usapan. My piercing gaze stared directly into his cold and lifeless eyes. He didn't waver though, nor showed any signs of emotions. He was like an empty shell.

Nang hindi siya sumagot, mas lalo akong nairita. "I asked again, who are you to judge me without even knowing who I really am and what I'm capable of?" may diin na ngayong tanong ko sa kanya.

He let a sighed escaped from his mouth. "I don't need to know you. I could already guessed much from earlier. Your form was weak, you were weak. You can't even defeat a low-level phantom so how can you expect to be part of the council? You'll just be a distraction, a dead weight."

The more he spoke, the more my anger grew for him. I didn't know that hatred could be this boundless, especially if it's for a person. His got quite a skill for pissing people off with his mouth. His personality was rotten to the core.

Gusto niya akong paalisin, and I bet that's why he's saying awful things to me now. He thinks he could shove me away by doing that. Too bad, hindi lang siya ang may kakayahang mang-inis. He wants me out, but I know a better way to piss him off.

"So what if I'm a dead weight? It's not for you to decide whether I stay or not. I'm part of the student council now. Hanggat hindi sinasabi ni dean na umalis ako, hindi ako aalis dito. You can't force me too."

I was right. Even if it was brief, I could tell that it made him mad. Akala niya siguro ganun-ganun nalang akong aalis. Nagkakamali siya. He made a wrong choice for forcing me to quit. I am a demon after all, threats like that don't affect me. Rather, I'm more likely to do the opposite of what I was told.

"You're really getting on my nerves now," mahina ngunit seryosong saad niya na ikinangiti ko lang.

"Dear, I have more ways to get on your nerves. I'll even let you experience them one by one, but there's no need to rush. We have all the time we need to get to know each other, don't you think?" Nangungutyang saad ko. If looks could kill, I would be dead by now.

In contrast to the person in front of me, I saw Jin flashed an amused smile. He was suppressing his laughter, but he failed. Nabalot ng tawa niya ang buong silid at nang matigil ay tinapik niya sa balikat si Zack.

"Paano ba yan pre, mukhang hindi ikaw ang desisyon," aniya at naiiling na iginaya ako palabas.

Pinihit ni Jin ang seradura upang makalabas kami. And before the door could close, I took a final glance at Zack who was was left there. Alone and unmoving.

I bet he was furious. That made me smirk.
