LET ME LOVE YOU - 5

'Max, over here!' 

Max looks at the man waives at him, he walks to his table. 

'How's Paris?' the other man who also sits in that table asked when Max has reached. 

He shrugs his shoulders, 'cold' he said 

The other three men just smiles while shaking their heads. Max is Max, naturally never interested in small talks, even with his closest friends. 

'You went with Prin?' one of them asked 

He just nods while checking on his phone. His friends look at each other and smiles. 

'Well, well, what an improvement' one of them said 

'You said you're not serious with her?' 

'I'm not' Max responded flatly 

'So, why brought her there?' 

'She brought herself, no on was inviting her to come along' Max said 

'You need to stop messing around man, are you never thought about committed to someone?'

'When was the last time you were in a relationship? I couldn't even remember when was the last time you had a girlfriend, like, a real girlfriend' 

Max stops whatever he is doing with his phone, his fingers stop typing but his sight still on the screen. He suddenly lost in his own thought. It's been three years, three years since Nat left him, but until now, he couldn't erase him from his mind. He tried to take away everything that could remind him of the smaller guy, went out with other people, but he still couldn't move on entirely.

'Nat, can you please check everything before we do the final performance test?' the project leader asked Nat.

'Sure' 

Nat is a different person from he was three years a go. He is no longer doing the labour work, he is now in charged as the project supervisor for electrical and mechanical. He works for an international oil and gas company and currently stationed in Vietnam. He went through a series of events, met several good people that help him to get a scholarship to continue his study. He was a bright mind to start with, he wasn't that difficult for him to get a good place to work after he finished his study. 

'All set and done, sir' he said to the project leader  

'Thanks Nat, we'll do the test in an hour' he said 

'So, you'll fly to Thailand tomorrow?' 

Nat nods, 'Yes, for the training'

'You don't look excited, why? You should be happy that you'll be visiting home, right?' 

'you haven't been home for a while now, right?' 

'Almost two years, yes' Nat said

'Well, there's nothing there for me anyway' 

'huh? what about your family?' he asked curiously 

Nat shakes his head, 'all gone' 

'Oh, I'm sorry, I don't know that-' 

'It's ok Phi' Nat said and smiles.

Nat is looking at his watch, he is now in the airport, waiting for his flight to Bangkok. He stares at the ticket, feeling dejected as ever, he needs to go back to that city, he thinks, to the city that keeps all the most beautiful memories but also the worst. He shuts his eyes and still that handsome face of his ex boyfriend from three years ago is the one that he sees in his head. Nat has never tried to open himself to anyone else, not that he doesn't want to move on from Max, but the pain that he had to endure due to that relationship has left a deep scar in his heart and mind. He had to leave Max when he was still deeply in love with him. Nat is a broken being when he met Max, he had no one, his own father betrayed him, killed his mother.
