Gill grunted and grimaced as Lucy applied antiseptic from a first aid kit that Claire kept in her garage to the deep cut on his arm. "Son of a-" He began but stopped himself. "Do I really need this gunk on my arm?" He asked as he winced, growling to himself.
"If you don't want it to get infected and need to be cut off then yes." Lucy answered. "Now please stop whining or you can do this yourself. Gill, keep your arm still!" She growled in frustration. Jimbo couldn't help but chuckle at Gill acting like a child as usual. "What's the matter, tough guy? Is the mean lady hurting you?" Gill moved again as he shouted over at him "Go an' eat a salad, herby!"
"GILL!" Lucy snapped. "Keep that stupid hide of yours still or I swear I'll have no problems knocking you out to do this!" The males all went silent and Lucy was finally able to get to work properly. It took her less than a couple of minutes to rub the antiseptic over the wound and expertly dress it in a bandage. "There, now doesn't that feel a lot better?" Gill nodded, not even making eye contact as Jimbo looked at him with his arms folded. "Is there something you want to say to Ms. Lucy?" He asked And Gill nodded. "Thank you, Lucy." He said quietly and Lucy stood up.
"You're welcome Gill but from now on, you're going to think before you challenge armed goons and you're going to show me some respect. Is that clear? It goes for all you, in fact." Crash nodded nervously. "You and Ms. Claire have already done a lot to help us. We have no problem doing what you ask, Ms. Lucy." Jimbo answered and Gill gave yet another one of his snide remarks. "Yeah, why not? It'll be just like being back at school." Lucy glared at him. "Well then just pray that I don't ever give your ignorant hide a detention. You won't enjoy that at all." Gill gulped nervously, looking away from her. "Nah. Detentions never were fun."
"So are there any other rules, Ms. Lucy?" Jimbo asked and Lucy gave him a polite smile. "Well first of all, you can drop the 'Ms.' It's just Lucy from now on." She answered.
"Oh, yes. My apologies." Jimbo replied.
"Okay. secondly, you'll treat Claire and her home with respect. Thirdly, if you insist on fighting crime, you'll do it by following my orders and you'll only undertake a mission if I give the okay. Finally, nobody goes out alone and nobody goes out during the day. Are there any questions?" She asked.
"Yeah, how long is our lunch hour?" Gill asked as Jimbo sighed and planted a palm to his own face in embarrassment. Lucy gave the tylosaurus a sound but harmless slap across the back of the head. "I might just make a new rule about stupid questions." The raptor commented.
"So, we'll only be doing missions at night? I can appreciate that, given what happened today." Crash interjected.
"Right, now that's all settled, what do you guys feel like for dinner?" Claire said as she picked up the phone. All three males snapped to attention and fixed their gaze on her like three dogs who had just seen a squirrel.
After watching an almost terrifying feast of three dinosaurs tearing fried chicken from the bone, (Gill mostly swallowed the bones) Clair began gathering up all the bones and other rubbish that remained on the table and Jimbo was eager to help her throw it all into a black bin liner unprompted, which earned him a 'good boy' and a pat on the head as Gill muttered to himself. "Jeez, anyone can throw rubbish away."
"Oh, by the way, do you guys have 'marks'?" Lucy asked. The boys looked at each other, visible confusion on their faces and Lucy elaborated. "When I was transformed, Dr. X-Ray's machine burned this mark onto me." She hooked a claw onto the collar of her tank top and pulled it down, showing enough of her chest that they could see a tiny phrase that read 'Property of Dr. Xavier Raye.' Crash and Jimbo looked at each other while Gill's eyes were fixed firmly on Lucy's slightly uncovered chest. "I haven't seen one of those." Crash said. "Neither have I." Jimbo replied and they began inspecting each other, looking for this 'mark'. "Hey, can I see yours again, I need to know what I'm looking for." Gill asked hoping to get another look down Lucy's tank top. "The only thing those eyes are going to see is my heel coming right between them if you don't put them back in their sockets!" She hissed at him and Jimbo pulled him over to he and Crash by the shoulder and Jimbo found a mark just like Lucy's on the underside of Crash's left wing. Gill's was then found on his backside through the tattered remains of his jeans. Jimbo's took the longest to find but Claire eventually suggested lifting his feet up and then it was found on the bottom of his left heel.
"Great, my idea for a tattoo was always to have some bald guy's name on my butt!" Gill said.
"At least it's not on your face." Jimbo replied. "I'd hate to have to see his name every time I look at you. Might end up punching you in the nose."
"As dumb as it sounds, this could be bad news. If anyone gets captured by humans, they might see these marks and take us straight back to Dr. X-Ray's lab." Crash said and gulped nervously at the thought while Gill growled at hearing the scientist's lab be mentioned. "Okay, let's not worry about that, right now." Claire said. "Come on, I'll show you boys the basement. There's plenty of room for all three of you down there."
Later that evening, Claire and Lucy sat in the living room, watching T.V. while the boys were downstairs in the basement rough housing. Even though they were nowhere near the living room, they could be heard quite clearly. The screeching of Crash when Gill pulled him down out of the air by his ankles, the roars of Jimbo when Crash playfully bit him on the arm and a few choice phrases from Gill that should never be repeated upon having his long hair pulled or having Jimbo's gigantic foot pressed against his snout while they wrestled.
"It's a good thing there's nothing down there for them to break." Claire remarked.
"Why do they have to behave like such animals? I'm gonna go and tell those idiots to keep it down." Lucy replied.
"Awww, come on Lucy. Let them have some fun. They've been through a lot since yesterday. And don't forget, they're...special." Lucy sighed but agreed with Claire. "I appreciate being reminded but you don't have to tiptoe around their condition. They're autistic and it shouldn't be sugar coated." Lucy explained. "You're right of course. I just haven't had any experience with autistic people." She took a calm sip of her tea. "They're going to be a lot more challenging to put up with than I'd expected. I'm really not sure they're fit for protecting the streets."
"Just give them one chance," Claire replied. "Take them on one mission tonight or tomorrow and they might just surprise you. They manged that bank robbery without you. I know they have a lot to learn but with you as their leader, they'll soon be the best thing that ever happened to this city." Lucy nodded. She knew it was worth finding out if they were capable fighters or not. "Alright. They get one chance to prove themselves, but that Gill is sure to blow it. There's not a brain cell in his head. Not like the other two, especially Jimbo."
It was then they realized the boys had gone quiet and there was suddenly no noise whatsoever coming from the basement. Curious, they went downstairs, half expecting them to have killed each other but what they saw brought a smile to Claire's face. Crash was curled up in a corner, fast asleep under his wings, Jimbo was sat against a wall, his head hanging down, snoring lightly with Gill draped over his lap face down, his tail wagging slightly every few seconds as though he were having a pleasant dream. "Oh, the little angels!" She exclaimed quietly. Even Lucy couldn't help but smile at the sight.
"'Little'?" She laughed, keeping her voice down. "Crash is as tall as I am and he's the smallest one of the three!" Claire laughed quietly, went back upstairs and returned with three large blankets. She draped one over Gill and another over Jimbo while Lucy placed the third around Crash. Taking another look at the three sleeping males, the two women walked back up the stairs. Lucy stopped as she raised her hand to the light switch and turned, taking one last look at them. Though she had her reservations about them, she was glad to potentially have some help in making the city streets safer at night, as well as just having others of her kind around after thinking she was the only living Dyno-morph. "Welcome to the team, boys." She said and flicked the light off before leaving the basement.
