• Chapter 1 •
February 1st - 1961

I look at myself in the mirror infront of me. Tears form in my eyes causing a burn through my nostrils.

I wipe my tearing eyes with my fingers as i walk out my bathroom door. I plop on my bed thinking. I feel horrible, having to leave everybody i know in this town. especially the one person i said i'd never leave, 𝐁𝐞𝐧𝐧𝐲.

I close my eyes trying to fall asleep but it won't work. Thinking about how i have tell everyone i'm moving away. A place that's hours away.
I close my brown eyes shut and drift away to sleep.

February 2nd 1961 - 7:45am

My eyes open to a bright way of light. i groan in annoyance as i remember what's happening today. I get myself up out of bed and walk over to my bathroom.

I start get ready for the worst day of my life. I brush carefully through my soft silky dark brown roots.

As i get done getting ready, I walk out my bathroom and choose a white t-shirt and light blue baggy jeans. I walk out of my room through the hallway and see my mother making breakfast. And my father outside packing the truck. I see the sight of brown packed boxes and luggages sitting around the house.

"Oh, good morning darling!" My mother says as she see's me walking toward the table. " Sit down will you." She seems so happy, i'm not, of course. She sets down a plate of blueberry pancakes. Syrup drizzling on top and topped off with whip cream and strawberries. My favorite.

I sit down with a slight grin on my face. As i eat my pancakes but.. I can only think about one thing. I stuff my face in a hurry and as i'm finished I get up to walk out the door to the sandlot. My mother stops me. "What's the hurry? we leave soon." I'm just heading to the sandlot i'll be back in a jiff " , I blurt. She nods.

I put on my black converse and throw on a black jacket. I walk to the sandlot, I see Benny walking out of his house. I cant help but smile.

"Hey!" Benny says to me with the brightest smile and pulls me in for a tight hug.

Me and Benny run to the sandlot together and we walk through the gate. I see everyone hanging out. I walk over to them and they all greet me. They notice the gloominess in my face. Squints notices and says "Hey you alright Ella?"

I nod my head and they start to walk off to play baseball. I blurt out the word "Wait!" They all look back at me.

I gulp a big knot that was in my throat. "What's the matter? " Squints says. "I- uhm."
I hesitated. Benny looks worried, he knows what i'm about to say is not good.

I finally let it out. "I'm moving." My heart drops as I break the news to them. Fiddling with my fingers and looking down. "What?" Benny says quickly. He looks so disappointed. Squints rubs his glasses with his mouth hung open. Yeah-Yeah and Bertram look like they had just seen a ghost.

Hams eyes widen, Tommy and Timmy look at eachother, and Kenny just stands there, Shocked. "W-what do you mean?" Ham says. His voice shakes. " I'm moving away. "

" Im so sorry. " Tears fall from my face.

I Look straight into Benny's eyes. He's already tearing up, Great. I fell terrible. " Forever? " Yeah-Yeah says. " Yes. "

Squints looks away while he says "Wow." "I'm so sorry it's not my choice! M-my father, he's gotten a new job and it's hours away from here." I shout out.

"So this is it? Your leaving. " Benny quietly uttered. " I'm terribly sorry! I really am I really don't wanna do this." They all look at eachother. " We understand. " Yeah-Yeah Says.

They all run over to me and give me a big group hug. I start to cry. As i sob Benny looks at me with sadness in his eyes. "We'll miss you."

I look at the time on my watch. My eyes widen. I have to leave in 5 minutes. I quickly look back and I breathed, I have to leave. My voice is shaking. They all nod and Benny hands me the baseball. "Remember us. Okay?" I nod with a smile.

"𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐞"

He places his lips on mine. It felt magical. We stare at each other for a good second.

I run back home sobbing. My tears don't stop. I run and see my parents. They've gotten everything packed in the truck already. They notice me.

"Oh don't cry. We'll come back, one day." My father says to me pushing up his glasses. I ignore him and run into the car. I open my backpack and grab the brown teddy bear Benny had given me. I hug it tight as tears flush down my face.

Me and Benny has always had a thing for eachother. And now it's all gone. I wish i didn't have to go.

The car starts and we exit the drive way. As the car drives past Benny and everybody else's house. I think to myself " I'll come back for you. "
