Chapter 1

shock

The day my life changed was a pretty normal day, well mostly. It all started with school detention I'm

not sure why I was in detention. My teacher told me that my friends locked themselves in the janitors

closet after school and I was accused of being part of it, actually she was the one who accused me. So, it

was my first time in detention and the second time in my life seeing my principal. She's really nice, but I'm not in

the mood to tell her. Today was like every other Monday minus the detention, it was raining in the

morning and since we don't own a single umbrella I got soaking. We live in Destin Florida, and by "we" I

mean me, my parents, two sisters, and baby brother. After math, we have lunch, I normally sit with my

friends but today jenny was gone so I couldn't find them because she normally finds me. I accidentally

sat at the "cool" kids table, so I moved after they got lunch. Then I got called out of class for my friends'

"incident" as my teacher called it.

After school I went to my locker, there was a note from my mom on my backpack, "I bought an umbrella for you it's in your backpack." I looked inside and there was a pink Minnie mouse umbrella that when it opened it was about the size of a plate. The one time she buys one

he had to buy this one. "Ash!!!" someone down the hall yelled, I glanced over my shoulder to see who had yelled.

Immediately I was jumped on by my best friend Jenny. Jenny was Asian and had the perfect hair, she

had big black glasses, and always had hair-ties around her wrists. Oh, if I didn't tell you my name is Ash short for Ashlyn. "Jenny where have you been?"

"She smiled, New York city!"

"What, you didn't tell me!"

"I know sorry we didn't know we were going till people from my church gave us the plane tickets the day of."

"Can't you call?" I asked forgetting she didn't have a phone.

"Remember?" She said with a look I know so well.

"Oh yeah. When did you get back?"

"Last night, but I had a dentist appointment today, so I got to school during social studies. Why are you still at school?"

"After school detention starts in five." I sighed

"You, in detention! Did I go into another universe?"

"No, Lilly and Emma locked themselves in the janitor's closet." I said acting like I didn't get the joke.

"Oh, do you want me to come?"

"No, not really." I lied knowing she wanted to practice cheer because she missed tryouts.

A look of relief glimmered in her eyes. "ok, I'll be watching cheer. See-yah."
